Trey Gowdy, a South Carolina congressman who supports Marco Rubio, called for Ted Cruz to repudiate the most recent bit of "underhanded tactics" ahead of the South Carolina primary.
"In the last week, we have seen a systematic effort by Sen. Cruz and his allies to spread false information and outright lies in the hopes of winning votes by appealing to our lowest common denominator," Gowdy said. "Now, Its been reported that a fake Facebook page has been used to fool South Carolinians into thinking that I no longer support Marco Rubio and that I'm instead supporting Ted Cruz.
"Nothing could be further from the truth and I'm demanding that Sen. Cruz and his campaign repudiate these dishonest and underhanded tactics," Gowdy continued. "We can have a debate about the future of our party and our country. But we need not leave our integrity behind."
In the Facebook post at hand by a page titled "Trey Gowdy Prayers," it says that the most recent debate "revealed [Rubio's] total lack of integrity, intillect and foresight," before switching the faux endorsement to Cruz.

I doubt if Cruz did it but he needs to have his allies under control.
If one guy calls you a cheater, then it’s probably just sour grapes. But when two and then three different candidates are all saying the same thing about you and only you? Houston, we have a problem.
Before I accept at face value that Ted Cruz’ campaign put up a ‘fake’ Facebook page, I would want to hear more about who exactly signed up for the account, created the page, IP addresses and all of that.
Facebook has all that data, and they need to release it.
GARBAGE.......
Hey Gowdy! Denounce your pointless outrage at Hillary that accomplished nothing.
Amnesty whore Gowdy leaning into car windows on the corner again.
“I will never vote for Ted Cruz in any way, shape or form.
Lying piece of crap.”
Sincerely DU patriot.
Damn! Did Cruz hire Mr. Dirty Tricks himself, James Carville, to run his campaign?
There were two people in the whole of congress that I used to respect: Cruz and Gowdy.
Then Gowdy endorsed Mr. Amnesty, Rubio, and now the Cruz campaign is resorting to dirty tricks.
It’s looking more and more like I’ll be staying home this November.
Hey Trey, will you ask The Kid to repudiate the lies he and his supporters are spreading about Ted Cruz.
Trey Gowdy has turned out to be another Lindsey Graham.
Like Ted, Al prefers nick names.
Name calling, eh?
Alberta.
Alberta, we have a problem.
:P
Please don’t feel bad for us. I’ll sleep extremely well after election night know I didn’t pull the trigger for a liberal and will go happily to my grave with that as well.
After election night will you be able to say the same?
LOL You don't believe that Cruz' campaign would do something this dopey, do you? This is obvious oppo stuff.
Sounds like you’re talking about Trump. He’s pissed off every candidate and is unctuously supercilious to boot.
And angering the majority of Senate members is a plus for me. They are disgusting money-grubbing pigs willing to sell us down the river for pennies. You act like the Senate is full of eagle scouts or something.
Why has Gowdy not come out with his report? Really, just how much more evidence do you need? Everyone knows what happened with Benghazi. Obama and Clinton abandoned those men to die when they could have been saved.
If, as the internal polls claim, this race is as close as it is, yes, he would do this.
You also running cover for the Rubio campaign? I’m glad to see Rubio and Trump share the same values and supporters.
I guess GOPe and liberals run together? Whodathunk?
All Gowdy is asking for is Cruz to repudiate it. The Cruz campaign has come back and accused Gowdy of claiming the Cruz campaign created the page - essentially saying Gowdy is making false accusations, when all Gowdy asked for was the Cruz campaing to acknowledge the facebook page was dirty and false.
Yep! That is what I was telling my daughter. It’s just way too may people saying the same thing about Cruz, and it has nothing to do with “conservatism.” Cruz apparently has a flaw that is being exposed in this election. As the saying says, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” Sad. SMH.
