US veteran's children taken away over his use of medical marijuana
When Raymond Schwab talks about his case, his voice teeters between anger and sadness.
"People who don't understand the medical value of cannabis are tearing my family apart," says the Kansas father and US veteran, who has a prescription for marijuana in neighboring Colorado, where it is legal.
Nine months ago, Schwab tried to move to Colorado to grow medical marijuana for fellow veterans. While he and his wife were there preparing for the move, the state of Kansas took five of their children, ages 5 to 16, into custody on suspicion of child endangerment, ensnaring his family in interstate marijuana politics.

He should have been running guns on the Mexican Border to make money, then he would have gotten help from the ATF.
So ironic that the CIC was a choom king in HS and still probably tokes daily. Oh if only we could talk to his SS details, the things we would learn I bet.
Either that or he talked to someone who ratted him out...
I am really starting to believe that we have the equivalent of the Stazi in our lives called “busy bodies”
I did 8 years 1968-1976. Can I claim PTSD for that service along with later alcoholism and drug abuse as a ‘reason’ to get a prescription?
It was only through broad and certain knowledge of his intent that the state of Kansas ever found out.
He should have lost the kids over abject stupidity.
Wouldn’t happen like that if they were black...
“Medical” marijuana. What a crock.
“Either that or he talked to someone who ratted him out...”
Read the story! The ‘unnamed’ was the wife’s mother.
“Schwab says that one of the relatives caring for his children (whom he declines to name) took them to the police station, saying their parents had abandoned them to go work on a pot farm in Colorado”
My kids - my marijuana - my kids - my marijuana
LOL!
“Schwab says that he has been sober since a stint in rehab in 2011, and that cannabis is the only medication that helps with his anxiety, depression and physical pain. “
âMedicalâ marijuana. What a crock.
I don’t agree. I don’t smoke, but have a good family friend who had to learn how, as a last resort for serious back pain and it seems to have really made a difference. It’s a drug, it should not be legal but I do think it has medicinal purposes that we should not just rule out because it is used also used illegally for recreation.
As opposed to what?
Someone thinking a stoner with mental issues might not be the ideal parent?

“Because my booze is superior to your herb!”
I’m reminded of the late Lynn Nofziger, White House advisor to Nixon and Reagan. He was a party line staunch anti-marijuana guy...until his daughter got cancer and used it to help ease the side effects of chemo. Then he was pro-medical marijuana. Why people can’t put themselves in another’s shoes until it happens to them personally is a puzzler.
They’re coming for the veterans right now.
