South Carolina television stations pull [Cruz] anti-Rubio ad amid legal concerns
CNN ^

Posted on 02/15/2016 7:42:36 PM PST by springwater13

Some South Carolina television stations are pulling a negative television advertisement from a group supporting Ted Cruz because of the claims it makes against Marco Rubio.

A spot from Stand for Truth Inc., a shadowy super PAC formed just a few months ago, had spent $125,000 to air the spot titled "Sanctuary" on Iowa television and on digital platforms, according to advertising tracker CMAG/Kantar Media. The group has not shared much information about its advertising plans, and is using a high number of companies to receive and direct donations. The group had begun to air the ads in South Carolina before the legal team for one media company, Media General, determined it had to be pulled.

The decision by television stations was first reported by The New York Times.

It is not uncommon for campaigns to try and litigate the fairness of attack advertisements with television stations, though the advertiser usually does not order a spot to be removed from the airwaves. And there is no evidence that other South Carolina television representatives find the ad similarly objectionable.

Randy Ingram, the general manager for WBTW, the CBS affiliate in Myrtle Beach, said the company received a cease-and-desist order and that Media General, which also operates a CBS and NBC affiliate in the Upstate and Charleston areas, decided to honor it.

"I'm not sure why legal decides we run something different," Ingram said, declining to say who specifically had requested the ad be pulled. He said Stand for Truth replaced "Sanctuary" with a different spot in its advertising rotation.

Mercer the tax cheat who gave Saint Skeaze Ted 11 million dollars in dirty evil New York City tax cheat money !!

Robert Mercer's bio. Sorry this isn't DemocratUnderground. Mercer is hated by liberals because he doesn't donate to liberal politicians (like Trump). And he avoids paying taxes LEGALLY. He's a rock solid conservative.

doesn’t seem that crazy...

much the same as trump has been saying. I’m sure Rubio doesn’t like it though, understandable.

Irrelevant. Same principle applies. It is conceivable that a candidate’s supporters act on their own. Look at FR. Clearly many many Trump supporters are acting on their own. Unless you want to say that the Trump campaign is behind it.

Would one Cruz supporter tell me what is NOT “sleazy” about receiving millions of dollars in anonymous, money laundered through straw LLCs donations? Who is funding these negative ads? Why is Ted Cruz allowing a Super PAC supporting to him to hide the identities of its donors? These are very troubling questions and the silence from Team Cruz is telling.

I did notice that you can't tell me what's sleazy about this Rubio ad and directed my question to a "chase the squirrel" over some imagined "sleaze" with the people that produced it.

But since I think your statement is interesting....I'll "bite". My answers:

Unfortunately, not all candidates can be billionaires, like Trump, able to pay for their run for the White House without "help" from the people who support them.

Stand For Truth, Inc is not a "shadowy" organization. If you were interested in who they are instead of accepting the Liberal CNN's moniker for them, you would know that the donors names ARE turned in to the FEC and some of them have already been posted online.

A few names from the FEC Jan 2016 release: United Automobile Insurance Co, United Group Underwriters, Inc., ABC Land & Development, Inc, Lawrence Petru, Mica Mosbacher Interests, Joseph Sutton, Sam Fritcher, Lodge Lumber Co, Herzog Railroad Services, etc, etc, etc.......

In early 2015, Eric Lycan was signing the FEC forms for expenditures......you will have to do your own research to see if he is still in charge of that or not

Thanks for posting the ad, Snerdley.

That is one irritating aid.

Cruz should be thankful they pulled it! The way the screen flashes every other second is annoying. Not a very useful ad in my opinion.

It is conceivable that a candidate’s supporters act on their own.

Cconceivable?....sure......likely? no, not when it comes to a PAC.

Amen to your excellent post.

I am with you...and Trump, 100%.

Cruz sleaze aside. That clip from Meet the Press may be considered infringement, or some kind of endorsement by NBC. Stupid of camp Cruz to use it, but they do that kind of stuff all the time.

Nope...they can use public TV clips. Rubio threw a fit about never "actively" supporting Sanctuary cities.

ROFL....since I think the amnesty bill he helped "build" would have turned the whole United States into a sanctuary city..... just like the ad said.

I suspect that you are a troll put up by the GOPe to join Free Republic in late 2015 in order to discredit the non-establishment candidates. Are you paid by Rove & Co.?

The GOPe knows that conservatives won’t support Bush, Rubio or Kasich unless the candidates whom they care about passionately are discredited. As a result, they have created the meme that Cruz is sleazy and a liar and are pumping that for all it’s worth.

For anyone who is tempted to drink the kool-aid, I ask you: If Trump should blow up, who would you rather have as the President: Ted Cruz or Jeb Bush? Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio? Ted Cruz or John Kasich? Don’t let the manipulators of GOPe succeed.

If conservative voters stay home, then we can look forward to President Sanders or President Hillary Clinton. Is that really better than President Cruz?

I take it the GOPe has asked you to use the word “Sleaze” in mocking Cruz. It must have tested well in the focus groups.

So the word “Sleaze” is the word that the GOPe has asked you to use today in mocking Cruz? It must have tested well in focus groups.

How much do they pay?

Don’t say “slimy” when describing Cruz. The word you GOPe operatives are supposed to use today is “sleazy”. Didn’t you get the memo?

The password is: Sleaze. I guess that is the word that GOPe has instructed its trolls to use today in criticizing Ted Cruz.

Exactly how did you poll-test that word?

Springwater 13 obviously is a GOPe operative. They are using the word “sleaze” and its variants today to attack Cruz. I wonder what word they have poll-tested for tomorrow.

They are not Trumpbots. They are GOPe trying to dampen enthusiasm for the non-establishment candidates in order to clear the path for Bush, Rubio or Kasich. Watch. If they take down Cruz they will turn their manipulations to Trump.
