Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire!
Townhall.com ^ | February 15, 2016 | Rebecca Hagelin

"Liar, liar, pants on fire!" The schoolyard bully that would be president, Donald Trump, now daily reaches such new lows of sophomoric language and behavior that even seasoned political watchers who have "seen it all" are shaking their heads. He's being so childish that it would have been no surprise had he added the "pants on fire" part to his tantrum against Ted Cruz Saturday night.

If the stakes weren't so high, it might be amusing to watch the Donald have his temper tantrums: from the bright red face, to the dagger stares, to the wagging finger and explosive yelling, I half expected Mr. Trump to spontaneously combust during the South Carolina debate. In his attempt to lure Evangelical voters - many of whom are NOT doing their homework - the Donald became irate with Senator Cruz after Cruz exposed Trump as a supporter of Planned Parenthood, the now notorious seller of baby body parts.

Trump, sexist that he is, knows he can't cast Cruz a sexist. Trump, after proudly slurring minorities as a course of habit, knows he can't call Cruz (a Latino) a racist. So, the Donald has settled on a sordid slur to bludgeon the most honest, trusted candidate in the race: Liar.

Conservatives don't fall for the "sexist" or racist" labels. The question is: Will they fall for the "liar" label?

It's the oldest trick in the political war-game book: call someone a name equated with disgusting behavior and that becomes the headline. Name-calling has always been the liberal ace-in-the-hole for seducing the drive by media and low information voters (to quote the great Rush Limbaugh). But God help us if conservatives - Christian conservatives - don't wake up and see the "liar" label as the playground slur that it is.

We've seen this before.

Senator Cruz is running on a sterling record of advocacy and achievement of conservative principles. He is one of the few in our lifetime who has done exactly what he said he would do after being elected and sent by the people to take a seat of power in Washington, DC. From fighting against the unholy alliance of Rubio/Schumer that attempted to grant blanket amnesty to millions of people who have broken American laws and, many of which, are now feeding off the backs of hard-working immigrants and Americans who play by the rules; to challenging the Washington cartel of the "Good Ol' Boys Club" that is the Republican Establishment, Senator Cruz has exhibited both courage and integrity. He fights for truth; he fights for the Constitution, he fights for freedom.

When Establishment GOP types unite with hot heads like Trump in name-calling in order to defeat an honest, fearless man like Senator Cruz it reveals something I wish every Evangelical and conservative would see: Senator Cruz must really be the Ronald Reagan of the new generation. Reagan was hated by the liberals and held in disdain by the party power mongers. But the voters saw through it. The decent men and women who were desperate for limited government, lower taxes, a strong national defense and a country based on the rule of law did their homework. They looked at the principles on which Reagan stood and his record as Governor of California, and they were able to see through the slurs and the name-calling. They showed up at the polls in droves and voted with knowledge and confidence and elected Ronald Reagan in one of the biggest election landslides of all time. Because they did their homework, because they did not buy the ugly labels at face value, they ushered in a new American day and restored our country to its place as "A Shining City on a Hill."

Do your homework. Go behind the name-calling. Look at the records, the history, and consider the maturity of the candidates. You owe no less to freedom and future generations than to study before you cast your vote. When conservatives do their homework and then vote for the tried and true, Ted Cruz will become not only the GOP nominee, but the President of the United States. Freedom, opportunity and civil society will see a new day in America.

We can do this. We must do this. Will you?

Donald Trump appears to have formed his political positions in the last couple of years. I like what he says (mostly) but I don't feel confident in trusting him. His WMD rant in the last debate is an example.

He is certainly strong in his ability to stand against anyone, especially the media. We certainly need more of that. But, while a small group of people were standing up against Obamacare, illegal immigration and runaway spending in 2012 and 14, Trump was writing checks to Pelosi, Reid and other liberals.

I'd like him to fight for me, but can't trust that he would always be there.

Oh gee, Ted Cruz went on national tv and called McConnell a liar. Is he also a schoolyard bully? Must be according to this article’s criteria.

The main reason I am supporting Trump is he is the only one talking about how to Make America Great again.

He talks about Immigration. A big problem in Our Country, with who knows what is crossing our borders. We have witnessed murders, raptists, gang people, and Muslim infidels that walk into a place and kill 14 people in Ca. And there have been others, Fort Hood...with this on top of new diseases cropping up all over, the newest one is Zika...

Our Veterans and Wounded Warriors are not being treated with the respect and care that they should be. They are treated worse than illegal immigrants...they get nothing in the way of food stamps, housing, and if you want to call what the Vets Hospitals across America is providing for them, I would think a Veternarian would provide better care. We do not give them the respect for protecting our Freedoms that they gave up their lives for and body parts for.

Our Economy is terrible. Our manufacturing jobs are going to Foreign Countries, so we are jobless. Ford is building a plan in Mexico; Nabisco is taking their plant to Mexico; Samsonite Luggage is in Mexico; Air Conditioners are now moving to Mexico and nothing coming back in form of money, and here sits the American Worker, working at Burger King for 4 hours in the morning, Artic Circle for 4 hours in the afternoon and another job at night for a few hours if their lucky....no health care, to costly, barely making the rent payment, buying food and gas for the car.

Health Care is to expensive and climbing higher almost every month. It was a joke on the American People in the first place by your President to begin with...and we all remember Nancy’s famous words: “Oh you have to vote on it before you know what is in it”...well we know what’s in it and we don’t like it...but the Insurance Companies and the Government love it....

Our inter structure is falling apart, our roads, our bridges, our power grids are collapsing, and if you don’t believe me on that, ever went thru a brown out in the Summer?

So here are the main reasons why my support goes to Trump, he’s a business man, a very rich business man that has built his American Dream and is willing to help America get back to her American Dream so her people can have better lives since Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush and obuma....lets make this America Great Again!!!

He is right, Saddam was no real threat.

11 of the 15 911 hijackers were saudis, the amount Saddam financed terrorism was peanuts compared to our “friends” in Saudi Arabia.

Saddam was not a good person but muslims need a strongman

We saw what happend when muslims get democracy

In egypt they voted the muslim brotherhood a terrorist origination that openly supports Hamas.

Muslims always vote the most extreme Islamist nutjob when they get democracy

The Saturday debate was tough to watch. I will eagerly vote for him if nominated, but Trump went off the rails with the Code Pink liar-liar rants. He’s better than that.

I am willing to support Trump even though he used to a liberal.

In a year i went from a hardline atheist to a lutherian christian so yes i am willing to believe Trump has changed.

If somebody who was as extreme as me in my hatred of Christianity and support of atheism( hell i supported late term abortions) , If somebody could change from that in just a year then i believe anybody can.

Not much "childish" rhetoric coming from Donald Trump. Looks like another "hit" piece on the Donald.

The article would not be as suspect if the "journalist" actually supported his assertions with evidence. Otherwise, it looks like the writer is blowing stuff out of his butt.

Cruz is very good, but Trump would be a better President.

We need someone with principles other than winning and palling around with powerful Democrats. We do not need Trump! If lumpen Conservatives feel the need to give the middle finger, then man up and do it yourself to Mr. Preibus. We don’t need to elect and incoherent, rotten businessman to do it for you.
