The anti-war movement of 2003 has finally found its voice: Donald Trump. To judge from the polls and his recent victory in New Hampshire, Donald Trump is the Republican front-runner. Yet in his critique of the foreign policy of President George W. Bush unleashed in tonight's GOP debate, Trump sounded not at all like a Republican but like the most radical anti-war activists of the early 21st century. He said the Iraq war was a disaster which was sold by lies about weapons of mass destruction. When told that Bush kept America safe, Trump snorted, "How did George W. Bush keep us safe when the World Trade Center came down during his reign?"
Bush's heterodoxy earned him boos from the audience, but might rally his legion of followers watching from home. The best way to understand Trump is in psychological terms: He represents the return of the repressed. There were countless Republicans who had doubts about the Iraq war and its consequences but kept quiet for the sake of partisanship. Trump allows those disaffected Republicans, who were unhappy with the Bush years and also by the actions of the Republican establishment, to have a voice--and it's earned him a large, devoted following.
Guess what? Trump was a democrat in 2003.
What a coincidence. He is now too.
I couldn’t have came up with a better response. Thank You
Trump is 100% American NBC though. That is more than can be said for other candidates.
So are Bernie, Ted and Hillary. What’s your point?
The antiwar morons of 2003 were antiwar because Bush was pro-war. If Bush had been antiwar, the morons would have accused him of dereliction. Whatever Bush was for, they were going to be against.
Bush turned out to be wrong and the leftwing morons were right just as a broken clock is right twice a day.
Now they have to say they are aligned with Trump and they are going to hate it. They can soak in their hate.
Ted? He’s got a map of Canada tattooed on his buttocks, Vet.
Every time he sits down Quebec separates.
Cruz was born NBC Canadian. I meant US.
So you are saying that Trump is 100% American born NBC Democrat. Well thanks for being truthful about that.
Isn’t he still a Democrat?
Where was this antiwar movement complete with puppets, burning Obama effigies, and Nazi symbols when Obama & Hillary bombed Libya, supported a Muslim Brotherhood takeover of Egypt, drone killing people all over the Middle East, and bombarding Syria?
Have you found your voice in The New Republic? Say it isn’t so. I suppose this an exhibit of what’s wrong with Trump?
Yeah, I was a big hippy protestor 13 years ago.
LOL.. I expected nothing less.
I didn’t support Libya, bosnia, Kosova or nation building in iraq, so I was down on that by 2004, iirc.
I always supported the troops AND GWBush’s authority to make the call. It was a mistake.
LOL!
Trump’s inner Democrat, his inner schweinhund, revealed itself then. It’s in his marrow. He believes in their conspiracy theories, and like them the fact that the Democrats voted for the war and claimed Saddam had WMD is forgotten. He was funding them then. They could say what they wanted about WMD without him caring. His mouth was trained to bad mouth Bush. It still is. He’s a fraud. For him Democrats get a pass, it’s Republicans he blasts.
So, unless you’re a war lover, who has no problem with the senseless death of American soldiers, and you think the war in Iraq was really, really great, you’re a code pink kook.
Got it.
How did I know you just signed-up even before I checked? It’s like I’m Kreskin.
