Sanders supporters revolt against superdelegates

Outraged by the delegate deficit Sanders faces even after his New Hampshire win, the senator's backers are taking action.

Bernie Sanders lost by a hair in Iowa and won by a landslide in New Hampshire. Yet Hillary Clinton has amassed an enormous 350-delegate advantage over the Vermont senator after just two states.

Outraged by that disconnect - which is fueled by Clinton's huge advantage with Democratic superdelegates, who are not bound by voting results - Sanders supporters are fighting back.

Pro-Sanders threads on Reddit have been burning up with calls for action, with some supporters even reaching out to superdelegates (who are typically Democratic governors, members of Congress, and top state and national party leaders) to lobby them on the Vermont senator's behalf. Progressive groups are also taking a stand: There are currently two petition campaigns designed to urge superdelegates to reflect the popular vote, rather than the sentiment of party elites.

In one of them, MoveOn.org activists are targeting undecided and committed Hillary Clinton superdelegates with a clear message: wait until all the votes are counted before throwing support behind a candidate.

The effort, which will begin this week after MoveOn.org polls its supporters to pick which superdelegates to petition first, comes amid growing criticism from Sanders supporters who complain that the game is rigged in the former secretary of state's favor.

As of Sunday, the petition had 112,107 signatures with a goal of 125,000 signatures.

"The next big thing will be this wave of petitions targeting individual superdelegates," said MoveOn Washington Director Ben Wikler. "Asking individual members of Congress and governors and other superdelegates to individually make a pledge to support the will of the voters when it comes time to count their votes."

Liberal Bernie Sanders a victim of voter suppression? The will of the voters denied? How delicious? Don’t know any other way to describe it.

The Dems debated pulling the Superdelegate Card on Obama in 2008. Obama’s supporters made it clear that the cities would burn if they did...and that, of course, was a credible claim. Needless to say, the Dems backed off.

This time what are Bernie’s bunch going to do, run around with some rocks and black “Kick Ass” tea shirts in Seattle, breaking a few windows? Yea, that will go far...and don’t forget, if Hillary does start getting black support those Sanders supporters attempting to riot may find themselves with a LOT MORE to worry about than the pigs (as they call them) showing up.

Does Hillary have enough super delegates to win already?

At this point Hillary could have all of the super delegates in her pocket and it wouldn’t matter. She lost the FBI vote at least a year ago when the criminal investigation began.

I’m now thinking that the plan might be to have Hillary win the nomination, then either have her drop out or indict her, and then the Dem Elite gets to pick the nominee.

If she drops our now (or is indicted), then Sanders will be their candidate, and they simply WILL NOT ALLOW THAT.

They really need to move the Democratic National Convention from Philadelphia to Chicago.

Pennsylvania has enough problems without a repeat of 1968.

The electoral college never votes in advance insofar as I know, but, in theory, all the delegates can vote what they think best; i.e., split the vote. I don't know when it got started win the state's popular vote, all the delegates go for the winner. A couple elections back, in VA or thereabouts, one elector held out to vote his mind/conscience. In the end, he went with the pack.

Dem superdelegates should be tested in the courts as being unconstitutional; now is not a good time but is a critical time. They have probably all been bought/promised off.

I know the superdelegates can pull back their vote(s), but it's a powerful persuasion for people to know they have stacked the deck for Hillary.

Republicans are pulling out some stops, too.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz:

“Unpledged delegates exist really to make sure that party leaders and elected officials don’t have to be in a position where they are running against grass-roots activists.”

Smile! Isn’t Debbie “brilliant” /sarcasm

You would think the Dem voters would see the vote is rigged just like in Commie Countries or Bananna Republic Dictatorships.

seems like its a third party Bernie time for a true Socialist believer.

That would be tougher on the Dems than a third party Trump would be for the GOP.
