It sounded “plausible” because people sort of assumed that Obama’s grandfather might possibly have served with Patton or something. Then it came out that No one in the Allied armies — not Patton, not anyone — liberated Auschwitz. It was purely the Soviets.
Then people realized that Obama was a shameless liar. And the media shrugged, and pretended he never said it.
