WEEK 526: COLD - Olney, MD
Posted on 02/14/2016 1:42:10 PM PST by trooprally
Cold weather finally settled in. After a 70 degree Christmas day, it was welcomed - NOT
BELOW: This is Lurker Jim's temperature reading at 10AM as we got started.
.
But this pales when compared to several Walter Reed FReeps. One time Kburi's gauge read 20 when we started and 12 when we ended. And there was no ambient warmth from the sun on the cold Friday nights. Of course today in Olney there was 20 MPH+ winds which cancelled out any ambient warmth. One gust was so high that we saw gravel and trash being blown along Rte. 108. Lurker Bill had hand warmers for every one. It was too bad he did not have some way to keep his sound system warm (Left side of picture on curb). It pooped out after 10 minutes.
BELOW LEFT: Four brave souls in good spirits. BELOW RIGHT: Flags Unfurled - Note bending of flag poles.
In the pictures, 2nd from left, is Marine LCPL Ed. He was home on leave and joined us. He was given a field promotion to Corporeal due to the cold. .
The others (left to right) are Fraxinus, Lurker Bill (sporting his winter beard) and Lurker Jim. .
BELOW: From the week before, Cindy_True_Supporter and [Mrs] Trooprally. Yes 3DJoy, there is a [Mrs] Trooprally. .

When it was over we were proud to have been out there. Another feather to add to our cap.

We have had other active duty military stand with us. Always a great experience. One Navy serviceman from Norfolk even presented us with a Navy flag that we still flag.
We have had several WWII vets stand with us. One is a good friend who was on Iwo Jima.

Snow and later freezing rain. But tomorrow it will be in the 50s. And Saturday they are predicting upper 50s. We had to have one bitter cold day this winter.

Hey DollyCali, long time no hear. Of course we haven’t been active in writing AARs. Yep, still in Olney. We had our 10 years anniversary Jan. 02. Glad you were with us even if it was only once. Good memories of that day. Hugs back at you.

I know—I used to be local to you, and I stood with you twice a few years ago. It’s good to see that this young Marine responded when he saw you there and offered his support. Too many would not.

Nice to see those smiles. Hopefully, this weekend will be a little warmer. You may even be able to pull off the mittens!

Thank you. We moved since you last stayed with us. Deeper into the bowels of Southern MD where the Amish still use horse & buggy.

We would be happy to have you stand with us and listen to your ‘bragging’. There is a Vietnam Vet, Army, who would love to trade stories with you.
Every Saturday, 10-11AM.
We had a Marine, then National Guard Sgt. Major, retired, stop by today. Also a FReeper.

Met a friend of yours today in Olney - ABNSarge. He made #7 standing out in Olney. Picked a good day to come out.

We are at the southwest corner of Georgia Ave and MD Rte. 108. Plenty of parking in the shopping center next to Poppyes.
You can meet a real FReeper or two!!

Usually there is only one ‘creep’ there and she is sporadic.
The White House Correspondence Dinner is coming up in May.

If you’re from that part of Maryland, it can be refreshing talking to some real people.
sorry, couldn’t help adding to your tagline
(Count to four except when in a helicopter), and then it can be anywhere up to nine, especially from a CH-54 Skycrane
