After a little investigating, it appears this ONLY applies to people receiving SS benefits who have a “representative payee”; e.g. people who have acknowledged that they are not mentally competent to manage their own affairs and have asked/had someone else appointed to manage their finances. I personally don’t think that there should be any limits on who can own a gun, if you are not in prison, you should be able to own a gun. I am just mentioning this to limit the knee jerk FR reaction of those who won’t read the article who will conclude that everyone on social security will lose their guns; that is clearly not the case here.

It’s a damn foot in the door. Social Security has no business involving itself in such matters.

Tyranny doesn’t always arrive with tanks, goose-stepping troops, and colorful banners.

Sometimes it just sneaks in quietly.

I figured there was more to this than the article mentioned. Still, appointing a representative payee is *not* equivalent to being adjudicated mentally incompetent. Therefore, this is still a huge infringement.

Thanks for that work.

But we still must not forget that the journey of a 1000 miles begins with but just one step. :0)

This, actually, I understand
I personally have first hand knowledge of an inadvertent Murder of Spouse by a mentally compromised Veteran. A WWII vet mistook his own wife for an intruder, shot and killed her, and then calmly called 911 to report the event, when the Police got there, he still thought he had shot an intruder.

When one is a Neurologist, one hears some very scary stories... This one was the patient of a partner. I was on call that night and it was... unpleasant.

I would also think they should also be declared ineligible to vote.
