Rush Limbaugh on Ted Cruz: Closest to Ronald Reagan in our lifetimes
Yahoo ^ | February 11, 2016 | Michael Walsh

Conservative political commentator Rush Limbaugh says Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is the best bet for returning Ronald Reagan's principles to the White House.

The controversial radio host said on "The Rush Limbaugh Show" Wednesday that no other Republican presidential candidates have come this close to Reagan in terms of articulated, implementable conservatism.

"If conservatism is your bag, if conservatism is the dominating factor in how you vote, there is no other choice for you in this campaign than Ted Cruz, because you are exactly right: This is the closest in our lifetimes we have ever been to Ronald Reagan," Limbaugh said.

He criticized former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich for - from his perspective - caving on their conservative principles in order to court more moderate votes in the New Hampshire primary.

"They were going left as fast as [football great] Deion Sanders can backpedal," he said. "They were moving left faster than anybody I've ever seen go left. And I opened the program yesterday saying, 'You will never, ever have to worry about that with Ted Cruz.'"

In recent years, Reagan has emerged as a somewhat mythic hero for American conservatives. Many politicians have tried to align their campaigns with "the Gipper."

The comparison between Cruz and Reagan has been cultivated in large part by Cruz himself. In his Iowa victory speech on Feb. 1, Cruz asked the crowd, "Do you want to know what scares the Washington cartel?"

"You," they shouted back.

"Actually, not remotely. I don't scare them in the tiniest bit. What scares them is you," he said, pointing to the crowd. "What scares them is that the old Reagan coalition is coming back together, of conservatives. We're seeing conservatives and evangelicals and libertarians and Reagan Democrats all coming together as one — and that terrifies Washington, D.C."

You know, the Trumpsters are really angry today.

I’ve been on a couple of threads where I had to go out for air.

Not sure exactly what it is. They claim their boy has an unbeatable lead ... so why so touchy?

The last time I posted to you, Jim closed down the thread.

So ... why do you come on all the Cruz threads to act all ugly?

Cruz oozes something, but it ain’t Reaganesque charm....

I'll admit the Cruz is not charming.

But Trump spews patent insincerity and it doesn't register with the trumpsters. Why?

DICKERSON: "What is your definition of conservative?"

TRUMP: "Well, I think it's a person that doesn't want to take risks. I think that's a good thing. A person that wants to in terms of government I'm talking about. Person that wants to conserve, a person that wants to in financial sense balance budgets. A person that feels strongly about the military and I feel very strong low about the military. And you have some of these Amy they don't even want to focus on the military. Our military is falling apart I feel very - I have always felt very strongly about the military. By the way, if you look at vision, the word vision, I was the one that said, take the oil, I've been saying that for years, take the oil, let's take the oil. Nobody would listen then all of a sudden after Paris they started saying maybe that's right we'll take the oil. They still don't take the proper way. I was - which is a little bit different than Normal conservative. But I was very much opposed to the war in Iraq. Lot of these guys were all for the war in Iraq look what's that has got it. Spent $2 trillion, now handing Iraq over, just handing over to Iran. Iran is going to take over Iraq I said that was going to happen. I said that years ago. In 2003 that Iran will take over Iraq was largest oil reserves in the world that's not a conservative position. When I was saying, don't go into Iraq I'm a very militaristic person, I'm very much into the military, will build our military better and stronger, that's the pposed to what we have now. I was opposed to the war in Iraq. Most conservatives, let's go gung-ho. Everyone of them wanted the war in Iraq. Look where it got us."

So FR founder Jim Robinson is an absolute idiot for believing Cruz is not only eligible, but the best choice. Nice.

Maybe you don’t belong on Jim’s website.

They said the same thing about Reagan. In fact, word for word, and repeated it thousands of times. We now know Reagan won in a landslide and was reelected in a super duper landslide.

Keep saying it over and over and over. I never get tired of hearing that Cruz will lose in a landslide. It was a lie about Reagan and now it is a lie about Cruz. That is another similarity between Reagan and Cruz.

Well, to be a great communicator you have to have depth of understanding of not just policy, but of sound and solid principles and communicate in a way that can capture the American spirit.

That definitely is not Trump. Reagan started in politics in the 40s, became governor of California for 8 years beginning in the 60s, spent years doing a daily radio program in politics and wrote a weekly newspaper column for many years extolling the principles he believed in.

Neither Cruz nor Trump comes close to that kind of experience. But it is also true that Trump comes closest to those ideals and can communicate them - perhaps not in the same way as Reagan, but he surely does come closest to Reagan.

Trump comes closest to no one really. Trump has some good points, but articulating ideals, freedom and liberty, surely is not a Trump strong point. Trump is much better than he was when he started out last summer, but has a long ways to go, but that may be enough for this year...we will find out.

Pretty crazy isn’t it...

As long as they don’t start saying GOD wants Cruz to be President...

Or is it too late for that..?

As long as they don't start saying GOD wants Cruz to be President...

God from all eternity, did, by the most wise and holy counsel of His own will, freely, and unchangeably ordain whatsoever comes to pass.

Please vote your conscience and your mind but stop casting aspersions.

He has to be a courageous conservative. And he certainly is not that.

So who was the guy on the Senate floor rightly calling Mitch McConnell a liar?

Laws don't make a person a natural born citizen. Laws don't make a person with blue eyes into a brown-eyed person.
