In the final moments, it all came down to one troubled young man and the exhaustive attempts by two of his ideological sympathizers to get him to surrender peacefully and end the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
"I'm actually feeling suicidal now," said David Fry, 27, of Ohio, the only one of the four remaining protesters who refused to leave the wildlife sanctuary on Thursday morning. "I will not go another day a slave to the system. I'm a free man. I will die a free man."

On Thursday, after his companions left, Mr. Fry spoke about his disillusionment with his fellow occupiers, with the Americans who did not join the occupation, with the banking system, with international wars and with the fact that "all those Pakistani children" had been "drone striked."

Whining little pothead.
This entire exercise has had the exact opposite effect from what the Bundy hustlers hoped.
Other than LaVoy Finicum announcing multiple times that he wanted suicide by cop and then going ahead and committing suicide by cop this whole thing was free of bloodshed.
The police at every level were amazingly accomodating and transparent - almost self-defeatingly so at times.
They waited weeks to cut power, they allowed the public to stream the negotiations.
The Malheur crew came off as confused, entitled, high-handed, disorganized, selfish, unhinged, and self-important.
Largest number of unique listeners to last nights stream? 70,000.
Actually if you were following the discussions going on by the most prominent militia leaders, they wanted no part in this ill-conceived affair. I’m proud they were thoughtful and discerning not to get involved with this.
Actually I have been as well as other incidents of BATF raiding legitimate firearms dealers and other assorted acts which could be construed as violations of our Constitutional rights.
