Former Mexican President Felipe Calderón told CNBC Saturday that his country would not contribute âa single centâ to the building of Donald Trumpâs proposed wall.
âMexican people, we are not going to pay any single cent for such a stupid wall!â Calderón, who served as president from 2006 to 2012, said. âAnd itâs going to be completely useless.â
âThe first loser of such a policy would be the United States,â he added. âIf this guy pretends that closing the borders to anywhere either for trade [or] for people is going to provide prosperity to the United State, he is completely crazy.â
Trump appeared on MSNBCâs âMorning Joeâ Tuesday and offered a response to Calderónâs comments.
âI heard the head of Mexico said âno way,â and I said, âNow the wall just got taller,â the Republican candidate told âMorning Joeâ hosts.

Pearl clutching has not gotten us a wall....or ended sanctuary cities....or deported those here illegally killing our citizens, destroying and leeching off of our healthcare and education systems and living large off of our hard earned tax $$.
No, pussyfooting and pearl clutching has not helped this country, at all.
What this country NEEDS to do is assess a higher payroll tax on illegals and non-citizens. Call it ‘the wall tax’.
Really, there should be benefits for being a citizen of a nation. Lower property taxes, lower health insurance rates, higher military pay...all kinds of ways to benefit those born here, or who have been here legally and long enough to pay their dues.
Those who are only visitors should pay higher payroll taxes, higher social security taxes, higher medicare taxes etc, even a ‘visitor-worker’ tax. Add an extra buck to the cost of getting a work visa...what ever.
I’m sure Mexico is envisioning having to actually write a check to the USA for the wall, but that’s not what the Donald has in mind, I’m sure. He’ll extract it from them one way or another.
I don’t hear Mexico caving in to the threat.
********
Mr. Trump isn’t Preisdent Trump yet.
Loved that flick...because of its relevancy.
“If they’re supposed to be footing the bill then I imagine they have some say.”
You imagined wrong. We simply snag it from the money being send south in wire transfers and in other fees before it even hits their hands. Like payroll withholding.
Even a 5% fee on ‘remittances’ (Western Union wires from illegals here) would hurt Mexico very badly. Mexico now gets more from remittances than it does from oil revenues. 5% is an astonishing $1.6 billion, double the entire amount of foreign aid the U.S. Gives Mexico each year...and you don’t think Trump isn’t willing to slice that too?
He has said all illegals in gangs will be gone day one. I’m sure his pro-police stance will open the way to more gang crackdowns.
You would be surprised how hard it is to shock me. That doesn’t mean I enjoy the lowering of the discourse in this country to crude levels. I unfortunately spend plenty of time swimming in the sewer our society has become in my everyday work. That doesn’t mean I want to live there. I go home and take a shower.
You would also be surprised to know that I am as tough as I need to be and no shrinking violet. I just prefer actions to words. What saddens me is how low a conservative supposedly God fearing website has sunk. If this is what passes for conservative thought, I fear for our country more than ever.
“Either they are not capable of civil discourse, or they think it gives them some kind of macho street cred.”
W, is that you?
Thanks for explaining this in simple terms...for those folks who may be having a hard time grasping the process.
They’d believe him if he said he was going to fill the Rio Grande with sharks and crocodiles and make Mexico pay for it.
No. My point was that Trump's foul mouth is encouraging some folks here to follow his lead. Sorry, if I wasn't clear.
Dont telegraph your position before action Its about as effective as dropping warning leaflets on Taliban areas an hour before bombing.
We have an idiot in the White House. As well as controlling the House of Representatives and the Senate. Your question?
:: No, pussyfooting and pearl clutching has not helped this country, at all ::
[jerk-mode]
You got anything concerning the “pussy-footing” term above, or will you be hypocritically inconsistent like the Dhimmi-media?
[/jerk-mode]
“I imagine Mexico would match the fees on people and goods entering there.”
And hammer their economy? You forget they depend on us, not the other way around.
Go ahead and revel in your crudity. Have a nice day.
Wow. Blaze in an extremely horrible site. It auto-bounces you to a different story after a few seconds.
There should be death penalty for bad web programmers.
That sounds like something Obama would say.
No wait, it sounds like something Obama DID say.
This is why Trump is attracting voters
