John Kasich: I'm a good middle ground between Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders
The Week ^ | February 8, 2016 | Jeva Lange

Posted on 02/08/2016 12:32:52 PM PST by C19fan

A possibly very confused voter at a John Kasich town hall in Windham, New Hampshire, wanted to know why she should vote for the Ohio governor in the "Democratic primary" — and Kasich, a Republican, didn't correct her. The question did not seem to be a slip of the tongue, either: The voter said she was having a hard time deciding between Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, and John Kasich in the "Democratic primary" and wanted to know why Kasich should have her vote.

Ouch. Somewhere between a doctrinaire socialist, corrupt corporatist and a die-hard marxist, socialist utopian. Way to position yourself, Kasich.

I got an email from a very liberal friend who asked me about Kasich. They said there was something about him on CNN that was interesting and they wondered my thoughts. I’m going to respond that although he is an OK governor (except for his embrace of obamacare) there is no way in heck I would ever vote for him for president.

So he’s middle ground between a Progressive Feminist and a Marxist? That’s sure to get him some votes.

I’m NOT for Kasich but I do believe in this exchange he had his tongue firmly planted in his cheek.

I'm not so sure. No serious conservative candidate would joke about something like that. That's like pulling a "your mother died" phone joke.

He caved on Ohio’s marriage amendment, too.

That’s provided his journey takes him away from 480, 271, 77 and all the rest.

Because those are the highways the citizens of Ohio will be monitoring, ready to crack his head for the Medicaid expansion.

They are ready to hang him on the nearest poll.

I’ve been stunned at the predictions that Kasich is heading for a strong 2nd place performance in NH. Not sure what any Republican could see in him. But perhaps Kasich’s comment today is aimed at independents able to vote in the GOP primary. I guess he’s positioning himself to Democrat-leaning independents as an alternative to Bernie and Hillary. Interesting strategy, but not sure how it could possibly help him in the long run. He’ll get clobbered in the South.

He's just catching up.

That's pretty much what everyone's been saying since he threw his hat in the ring.

In fairness to Kasich, I am slightly more inclined to vote for him than Yeb!. The odds on a Yeb! vote are about the same as me winning the Powerball jackpot in 10 consecutive drawings. For Kasich it is only 9.

“I’m not so sure. No serious conservative candidate would joke about something like that. That’s like pulling a “your mother died” phone joke.”

You could be right he certainly fits in with the group that uses the term “conservative” as an obligatory campaign slogan. On the other hand his humor does seem to be a bit warped. I’m not sure anyone including John knows where he stands.
