Cam Newtonâs dream season ended with a nightmare performance.
Fresh off being named the leagueâs MVP, the Panthers fifth-year quarterback was stymied by an aggressive Denver Broncos defense in his first Super Bowl appearance on Sunday.
It didnât get any better off the field, as Newton also walked out during his postgame interview.
âI donât know what you want me to say, Iâm sorry,â a very dejected Newton said, prior to walking off. CBS Sports Radioâs Jim Rome took a shot at Newton following his postgame press conference.
âCamâs presser was weak. If youâre going to celebrate when you win, youâve got to face the music when you lose,â Rome tweeted.

We have separated the men from the boys.
you’re not gonna believe this, but it is true :)
i searched online last night hoping to find mature words with some integrity from Cam, me being ever the optimist.
i didn’t find anything either way and went to bed.
Here’s my answer.
maybe he’s just young and it’s too much of a blow.
to be fair, none of america’s youth are shining beacons of maturity anymore.
If the lyin’ king had a son................ Just sayin’.
He should have at least given a BIG shout out to the Panthers defense. For all practical purposes, they kept Denver out of the End Zone. It was, more or less, the Broncos defense that scored both Denver touchdowns.
Correction:Fraidy Cam
it’s the truth.
why would i make up a lie like that?
are you accusing me of lying?
So enjoyable watching those cretins lose!
What a loser, he forgets that millions of kids believe he’s a role model and he now taught them they don’t need “manners” or to act grown up and mature.
It is not that Cam said nothing and answered no questions. He was upset, and he did not want to go into the details the meida wanted.
That appears to be the issue.
I do think he needs to mature...and I do think that he was set back on his heels by they strength of the Denver defense and pass rush. But heck...he's young.
My biggest issue with Cam remains the way he interjected race into the discussion a week or two before the game when it was wholly unnecessary.
But he actually did answer Press questions last nght. Here's the full transcript:
What's your message to Panthers fans? "We'll be back."Maybe he should have stayed longer...but that's not nearly as bad as I was led to believe for last night.
Ron [Rivera] said Denver two years ago had a tough time and they bounced back. Do you take that to heart? "No."
Can you put a finger on why Carolina didn't play the way it normally plays? "Got outplayed."
Is there a reason why? "Got outplayed, bro."
Was it pretty much what you had seen on film from Denver? Anything different they put in for this game? "Nothing different."
Do we sometimes forget that defenses can still take apart the offenses in this game? "No."
What did Ron Rivera say after the game? "He told us a lot of things."
Anything in particular that was memorable? "Nope."
Obviously you're disappointed. On the biggest stage it's difficult, I know. [nods head]
Did you see anything that you didn't expect tonight? "They just played better than us. I don't know what you want me to say. They made more plays than us, and that's what it comes down to. We had our opportunities. It wasn't nothing special that they did. We dropped balls, we turned the ball over, gave up sacks, threw errant passes. That's it. They scored more points than us."
Can you put into words the disappointment you feel right now? "We lost."
Did Denver change anything defensively to take away your running lanes? "No."
I know you're disappointed not just for yourself, but for your teammates. It's got to be real tough. [shakes head] "I'm done man."
Anyhow, I was rooting for the Sheriff all the way. He may not have had a "stellar" game himself. But he did exactly what he had to do to let his defense win that game. As he said afterwards...it was a team effort, and he know well enough to let the team do it,.
...and they did. Congratulations to Manning and the Broncs!
He's been so hyped up, and he and the team just weren't ready for the intensity level. I'm 100% okay with him walking off, rather than start cursing the reffing or the coaching or the playing field or whatever so many sore loser do.
Itâs quite fun and comfortable to speak to the press after your team wins; high 5âs for everyone; laughter and smiles abound. When you lose, itâs rather difficult and agonizing to field questions; very little to smile about. All throughout life one will âwinâ and one will âlose.â How one handles these two divergent situations says much about oneâs character.
I thought he believed that people were afraid of him, due to him being a large black man?
boy, that makes him sound like a petulant baby.
I NEVER thought manning would win another
the first one was kind of a fluke with a bad call and he was so nervous he couldn’t look up from the sidelines.
called him a choker the past few years. i take it back, obviously
Cam Newton meet Wade Phillips (Son of Bum)
Damn, Newton spent the last two weeks telling the world what a great BLACK quarterback he is. On game day he shows up with the MVP already in his back pocket and stenciled on his shoes. Then he ran into Von Miller.
It will be interesting to see who is the first to brand Wade Phillips as racist for denying Cam Newton his rightful place as the Greatest (black) Quarterback in history.
Guar-an-damn-tee it’s coming.
Yup.
“All throughout life one will ââ¬Åwinââ¬Â and one will ââ¬Ålose.ââ¬Â How one handles these two divergent situations says much about oneââ¬â¢s character.”
The comparison of character and maturity cannot be more stark between Peyton and Cam.
what is he, 24?
i dont remember how i would have responded. hope i would have handled it well.
but you know what, Marino handled it with class when he was very young and lost to montana.
but even a generation ago America was a different place.
