MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Hillary Clinton told voters in the latest Democratic debate there's "hardly anything you don't know about me."
Just minutes later, she got tangled in a question about a part of her resume that is an enduring mystery.
In the 18 months before launching her second presidential bid, Clinton gave nearly 100 paid speeches at banks, trade associations, charitable groups and private corporations. The appearances netted her $21.7 million - and voters very little information about what she was telling top corporations as she prepared for her 2016 campaign.
What she said - or didn't say - to Wall Street banks in particular has become a significant problem for her presidential campaign, as she tries to counter the unexpected rise of Democratic rival Bernie Sanders. He's put her in awkward position of squaring her financial windfall with a frustrated electorate.
Asked in the debate - and not for the first time - about releasing transcripts of those speeches, she said: "I will look into it. I don't know the status, but I will certainly look into it." She added, "My view on this is, look at my record."

Previously, she was asked, and she cackled.
I bet the speeches are empty, boring stuff, which raises the question of what the entities who paid for them thought they were really getting. To me, duh, the obvious answer is influence. More likely, general influence—ready access—rather than quid pro quo. I believe the quid pro quo transactions were from governments and select foreign players (like the Canadian mining mogul who got Russia partial ownership of US uranium deposits).
In a nutshell, what Her Royal Heinous said to the fat cats, at an average of $225K per appearance:
“FJBs, give to me & vote for me, and I’ll let you be!”
Of course. The Devil will not recite the incantations before nonbelievers.
We should know before too long about the quid pro quo stuff unless Hillary “retires.” The stuff the FBI is verifying and documenting would put a normal person in prison for life and beyond.
This is the scandal to top them all. The FBI is already trying her in the court of public opinion. Her plummeting poll numbers indicate more and more are waking up to the fact she and Bubba are criminals.
I at least presume she had someone in the audience, no? And largely there in media-capital NYC to boot.
Do reporters both with anything beyond attending official press conferences these days?
What is so mysterious about bribery?
100 speeches in18 months and no recordings?
I’m betting if the Democrat electorate reads those speeches she loses the election overnight.. you could bet a lot of money she was saying the exact opposite of what she preaches on the campaign trail and in the debates.. FEEL THE BERN
Rush debunked her answer that “that was what they offered”. She no doubt has an agency that negotiates her fee and she gets what SHE wants not what they’re offering.
Yep - pretty much the way it works. Hillary is not unique in this regard either. They will have a speech that is 80-95% canned. They’ll make some minor changes from event to event, both to “personalize” it some for whoever’s paying the bill, and also to mix in some current events, so the listener doesn’t think it’s the same-old, same-old.
The fees paid are as much about influence and access, as it is about the egos of the corporate C-suite, who has now shaken hands brushed elbows with the political elite.
If Hillary is forced to release 100 speeches, I think you’ll really see 1 speech given 100 times, which won’t make the “what were they paying for?” issue go away - it’ll make it worse.
They OFFER what she wants or she doesn't show up.
We need a million of those. No body listens to a think she has to actually say. Alls they see is a huge shriveled up vagina that has political influence.
The likes of Shrillary are only viable in an insane political environment such as we now have in America.
Likewise with Hillary and her "speeches" - any of which she charges enough money that could buy a very nice house for any of the rest of us.
Of course. AND, the MORE the businesses are mired with government regulations, the more $$$,$$$ it costs to have Hillary’s presence!
Refuse a speech and what it would get you is more govt. regulations and auditing pressures...and she and every person from mayors up to President know this so in the end, the taxpayers and many investors are fleeced.
Money is her GOD!
Appalling lack of accountability as she sells out America. No wonder the voters of both parties are fighting to block her nomination. Anybody but Hillary is what so many Dems are saying.
