Hundreds of people are feared trapped in collapsed buildings after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan.
'Multiple' buildings - including at least one residential block - are said to have fallen following the quake which shook the island at about 4am on Saturday.
Reports emerging suggest Tainan, on the south-west coast, was the worst affected, with pictures of buildings partially or completely destroyed circulating on social media, while video footage shows rescue workers wading through water after the mains burst.

I am very sad to hear this.
There is no excuse not to build earthquake resistant buildings in this age. Maybe they were older buildings that collapsed.
Wow, I wouldn’t have thought a 6.4 would do that, I figured their buildings would be more sturdy than that.
My brother lives in Taipei. FWIW, Taiwan is the size of the State Of Maryland.
Oh no, prayers up. Please let everyone get rescued.
Very shallow, on land, and a well populated area. There will be many casualties I’m afraid.
Damn, that is bad for a 6.4 quake.
If it hits in a densely-populated area like Taiwan is, it doesn’t matter what it is on the Richter scale.
Keep an eye on Beijing.
Reminds me of a show that a friend shared with me:

It was about a real life depiction of a Mag 8 hitting tokyo and for a cartoon dang it was sad...
Can’t possibly be as sad as Grave of the Fireflies.
Family in Xiamen across the strait. Thanks for posting - must check on them.
Hope they are safe. Godspeed.
