Ben Carson and his closest advisers are going nuclear against Ted Cruz and his campaign for spreading false rumors that he intended to drop out ahead of the Iowa caucuses.
Carson's close friend and adviser Armstrong Williams told The Hill in an interview on Wednesdaythat the Cruz campaignâs tactics were 'nasty, brutal and deceitful.'
'We've been told all along that Cruz's operatives play dirty and were capable of this stuff, but Dr. Carson never believed it, he felt like they had a respectable operation,' Williams said. 'Now we see firsthand that having integrity just doesn't matter to them. It's about honor and character, either you have it or you don'.t'
Williams said he's certain that Cruz knew the rumors about him dropping out were false but says the Texas Republican allowed his underlings to spread it anyway.
'He's a pure politician and will do anything to win,' Williams said. 'It doesn't matter who he does it to, friend or foe, whatever it takes to win. Cruz has been running as an outsider and calling Hillary Clinton dishonest. Well, Cruz is the one running without honor or integrity, and this shows he's just like everyone else inside-the-beltway.'
Carson has demanded Cruz fire those responsible for spreading the rumor, but Cruz has said he won't do that.
"After all the candidates worked so hard, and Dr. Ben Carson had a staff member lose his life working towards this day, to have someone like Cruz and his people deceive and spread falsehoods is unconscionable," Williams said.

>>Why do people not understand that mouthing âIâm sorryâ is just half the formula of true repentance. The other half is a heart that wants to make right anything that was done wrong. Restitution.
Saying the words is a lot easier than true repentance.
It’s not about me - why do you keep making it about me??
To stuff an imaginary strawman that I’m a Rubio supporter?
>>Or do you think CNN had no source when they reported it?
Would the MSM engage in “accurate but not factual” reporting? Hell yes!
Well if length counts toward credibility then your post certain had length.
But I like brevity. Neither Trump, Carson, Rubio, Kasich, Huckabee or Santorum used Shaming mailers and dirty trix emails in Iowa. Just one person did that.
thanks I read that a few days ago. The thing that make me mad is that Ted Cruz knows he is not elilible going by original intent and yet he claims to be a great constitution conservative. He is a hypocrite willing to trash our constitution if it gets in the way of his personal ambitions. That and his a liar willing to use dirty tricks put Ted Cruz on my never vote for list. If Ted is the nominees I go third party.
So calling out voter fraud is inept in your book? How about your candidate and his deceit and lies/ smh
Very dishonest.
Defendant to judge: I’m sorry I killed those 3 people. Judge, well, I accept your apology - don’t do it again. Get real - actions have consequences.
I took the ‘get clothes’ thing as a metaphor meaning take two days off. Not literally running in, getting clothes and running out.
And only one person won!!
BFLR
King twisted it.
CNN didn’t say anything about Carson dropping out. King said Carson was dropping out almost an hour after Carson had refuted such reports.
Thanks for the link.
A good reminder.
This is on Carson, the political novice. It was HIS campaign that made the decision to take a sabbatical in the middle of the first two primaries! AND THEN, reported it to the press, who rightly were flabbergasted that any serious candidate would take time off for “laundry day, nothing clean” and rightly inferred that he was done.
I guarantee you when the whole truth comes out, every viable campaign in Iowa will be shown to have shared this information, because by the way it was reported on CNN, it certainly appeared that Carson had given up.
However, IF I was a Carson supporter, there is no way I am changing my vote based on a 13th hour message shared by a competitor without verifying it first. Carson and Trump must think Iowans are too stupid to pull out their iphones and confirm this report! The technology is available there, and by all accounts they seem to be reasonably intelligent folks. My gosh this is Iowa, not NYC! The way they are being presented in this kerfuffle is insulting.
Carson’s campaign made an epic mistake. He may have a very good reason for taking time off, but the optics are all wrong, and he mismanaged the media and his supporters. This is ALL on Carson, and his campaign. If this is the best message Trump and Carson have going forward, they are in YUUUUGE trouble.
Cruz did not need to apologize. He did nothing wrong, nor did his staff. They simply shared what was being reported. But he is a gracious man, and did the right thing. Carson needs to man up to HIS mistake, apologize to his supporters, and move on. Maybe he can pray for a miracle at the prayer breakfast and salvage his campaign.
Apparently, Carson himself disagrees with your take on it.
He’s not ready to move on.
It could get very ugly if he chose to do so.
This is interesting because Rubio’s camp interpreted Carson’s “take a break” anouncement the same way.
