The senator's comments also marked a sharp reversal for his support of Roberts in 2005, BuzzFeed reports.
The report cites Cruz's support for Roberts' nomination in a 2005 op-ed piece for the National Review and an internal memo he wrote as Texas Solicitor General praising Roberts' skill as a litigator.
"Iâve worked with John and seen him argue numerous cases, and, to my mind, thereâs not another appellate advocate whoâs even close," Cruz wrote.

I can’t wait to read the new round of tweets this morning. DT must be exploding = how dare a poll put him at 25% nationally? How dare Cruz and Rubio be tied 4 points behind? How dare anyone call him a sore loser? Does he need to say “wall” a lot today?
But I don't know of a single conservative who was warning about Roberts. He had a solid track record. I thought Janice Rogers Brown would be better, but there was nothing negative about Roberts.
Enjoy:
But for the record, I never liked O’Connor, Souter, Kennedy, or any of the others who voted for things they imagined they saw. I like Rehnquist, Thomas, and Scalia. And yes, I do think that Roberts is in that mold.

Scallia likes the Roberts’ nomination; so do a lot of others on our side.
Since Thomas and Rehnquist vote the sames way, what’s the difference/problem?

Scallia is DELIGHTED with the nomination, so are Mark Levin and Michael Barone, and the president.
And even Scallia and Thomas have diverged in the past, with Thomas being on the right side of things.

Even Scalia and Thomas have been on different sides, at times. But Roberts is NO Souter! Souter was much more of an UNKOWN, when he was nominated, than Roberts is.

Funny...
Hypocrite much?
How can Trump complain about ACA when he wants ACA on steroids?
See post #23...
Wow. How did you find that. hats off to you.
Google and a few minutes...

It was the seventh hit...
Since you, nonpardons, hold up Trump as an examplar, than you agree that:
1. Scalia is a terrible Supreme Court justice.
2. You are strongly for Affirmative Action, and believe that being against Affirmative Action is "very, very tough on blacks" (to use your idols exact words.)
I’m just wondering, who does support doing those things? And what power does a president have. Would you vote for someone who is lying to you, just because you liked the lies?
I’m okay with Cruz changing his mind on John Roberts. I read a lot of Roberts’ writing before the nomination, and I believed he was an honorable man and a conservative. Making that mistake was natural because there was so much evidence in support of that belief.
If Cruz was unwilling to revise that opinion based on overwhelming evidence that Roberts is not what he pretended to be, or at least is subject to blackmail, then Cruz would be a fool. Of course we were all wrong about Chief Justice Roberts, and Cruz at least is honest enough to admit it.
I worry that Cruz supporters (including me) could be wrong in our belief that Cruz is a genuine conservative. I worry that Trump supporters (and Trump is my second choice) could be wrong about Trump being the right person for the job at this critical point in our history. We always have to judge based on external evidence, and sometimes we are wrong. That’s costly but unavoidable.
Roberts seemed to be a very good appointment at the time, unlike Kennedy whom I assumed would become a typical egotistical problem solver on the bench, like Earl Warren.
Dilantin.
Cruz has horrible judgment. He talks a lot and accomplishes nothing. He is perfect for the Senate.
Show me where “Trump laid it out” before Cruz.

Balls in your court.
Exactly.
If anything, Roberts snookered us all...
Heaven forbid Cruz do something as attricious as support the USSC justice nominee from the President OF HIS OWN PARTY!
I’ll bet Trump didn’t support him, but then again, back then he was a leftist Dem...
Dilantin
We were all pretty happy with Roberts when he was nominated. Then he betrayed us. We all hate him now.
Cruz is no different.
If Trump had claimed to know Roberts, had worked with him, brought him aboard, and praised him helping to get him , what would folks here be saying today?
If you think they’d be saying it wasn’t his fault, I think you’re wrong.
“For whatever reason’s, Justice Roberts has changed under Obama and the change is for the much worse.”........
Could it possibly be that Roberts adopted two sons that were supposedly from a country where such adoptions were illegal and odumbo is holding that over his head? Just speculating.....
What say you?
