Trump’s Terrific People
National Review ^ | 2/3/2016 | Kevin Williamson

Posted on 02/03/2016 6:06:05 PM PST by CA Conservative

Forgive me for repeating a point that's already been made by Rich and others, but I think it bears sustained consideration.

Donald Trump's professed strategy - for everything - is: I'll find the best people, the smartest people, terrific people, and those terrific people will come up with the best solutions possible. Implicit here is a pyramid of terrificness with Donald Trump at its apex.

And what was Trump's explanation for his poor performance in Iowa? "People told me my ground game was fine." I.e., "I got bad advice." As it turns out, Trump could not find the best people, the smartest people, terrific people for the relatively straightforward process of identifying supporters in Iowa, the population of which is less than half of Long Island's, and getting them to caucus locations.

Bend Beijing to his will? Construct thousands of miles of effective barriers across the Mexican border? He couldn't get his team to the Dunkerton Community Hall and Bunger Middle School when it really mattered.

Trump cannot accept responsibility for his mistakes, which is a crippling disability for any leader. He blames his underlings while insisting that the most important skill he brings to the contest is his ability to choose the right people for the job.

I am skeptical of Trump's purported business acumen. I am a very big fan of almost all business plans that begin with "Inherit vast wealth and a thriving enterprise from daddy," but I don't think those arrangements necessarily produce great leaders. But even if you take him at his word (always a mistake - the man is a habitual liar - but, arguendo) the fact is that those skills aren't necessarily transferable. Trump has vision, but his vision is: "You know what this casino needs? A strip club."

Greasing Atlantic City politicians and cowering behind Cole Schotz every time you misplay your hand isn't very much like being the commander in chief of the United States of America.

And "I'll have the best people" isn't much of a strategy for a man who plainly cannot recognize them when he sees them.

He had the second highest vote total of ALL TIME in a Republican Caucus in Iowa!

Right, he was second place (doesn't Trump call second place the first loser???)

The sounds somewhat like Woodrow Wilson's "science of Administration" progressive plans.

"...there should be a science of administration which shall seek to straighten the paths of government, to make its business less unbusinesslike, to strengthen and purify its organization, and to crown its duties with dutifulness."

Where did I say they were liberals? My opinion of it is, it’s a RINO RAG. Rebel Pundit sums it up pretty well......

I honestly believe that YHWH took pity on you Tediban and Cruzadians by letting Ted Cruz win in Iowa. That meant the Donald Trump had to come in second. This appears to be an important life lesson for Donald, as well. YHWH being the master of the triple bank shot.

I can’t imagine how crazy you folks would be without the Ted Cruz win in Iowa. It will be interesting to see how the New Hampshire primary works out. No matter how the rest of the primary and the General election plays out, you will always have Iowa. ;-)

They need 1500 delegates to win. Trump has one less than Cruz. It is less than a drop in the bucket.

For a first timer in politics Trump turned in a strong second in Iowa where we all know the son of the preacher man always wins. Trump is leading the GOP race by a wide margin in almost every state. I’d say he is doing pretty well and has not spent much doing it. Hopefully he will do the same for the country.

Trump has a long history of over-promising. Republicans have
been gentle with him.

Democrats will bring it all out. They’ll start with clips from the documentary about the golf course in Ireland. He gave “Ugly American” a whole new meaning and over-promised job creation by his enterprise by 500%.

Of course, he had the ever-ready excuse. He was mad because they built windmills.

The politicians he paid off on that one had some ‘splainin’ to do.

There is so much material on him.

Trump's people always tell him what he wants to hear

It might be time for Trump to ditch Corey Lewandowski and get somebody who can manage the ground game more effectively.

Surely you've been around here long enough to know that graphic is aimed AT a privileged whiney liberal who conceded, then made unfounded charges of voting irregularities. Right? The same as what lil Donnie is doing right now.

The term RINO self identifies as someone too "liberal" to be considered by true conservatives. However, I think the article you discount, posits some question about The Donald's outrageous claim that he can assemble "terrific" masterminds once he gets into office.

I don't care who ultimately wins, be it Trump/Cruz/Rubio or the dog catcher, there is going to be a lot of pain involved in undoing the progressive mess we are in. None of the candidates are willing to acknowledge how painful change (a reversal of progressivism) will be. To right the ship there are going to be casualties and that is the truth that no one is trying to sell.

It would be mistaken to think that change could possibly be worse than the path we are on now.

IF NOT NOW, I FEAR NEVER.

Ted said he was sorry.

Carson accepted it.

Sorry about your case.

Rubio was known to have done it too.

Look, those are the facts.

I had concerns that he was surrounding himself with yes men.

He needs to boot all those types from his campaign and hire people who will be upfront with him.
