Microsoft has made Windows 10, the newest version of the operating system, a "recommended update," meaning that it will automatically download onto PCs, according to The Verge.
PCs that are are running Windows 7 or 8.1, the two versions that preceded 10, will download the newest version of the operating system automatically, unless the user opts out of the update.
Microsoft announced in October last year that Windows 10 would download automatically onto PCs, and has now started the process.
Anyone who has a metered internet connection, with a data limit, will have to switch off the automatic update manually, as it will use up around six gigabytes of storage.

“Again, read the EULA”
The EULA is not absolute. Like contracts for phone or cable service, they are rarely upheld in court because the court is biased in favor of the consumer.
Nevertheless, the burden would be on the consumer to show that some damage was done, as in a bunch of your other software was not compatible w/10 and it cost you something to fix it.
AGs watch civil court cases. If they see a bunch of cases opened against a company, they start doing their own investigation to try and figure out what’s going on.
Don’t disagree, but hardware is useless without an operating environment. Ever code in assembly?
An oldie but goodie
any other board watch fans out there?
I have Windows 7. If I wanted to know if these programs were automatically downloaded onto my computer would I find that information by searching the Control Panel home /programs and features/ install updates ?
they already did this to my wife PC, about a month ago.
had nothing but problems since then....the “upgrade”, so far, has caused the following:
messed up her wireless card drivers....had to uninstall and reinstall. (intermittent network connectivity)
messed with her power settings....constant error messages stating that her 65w power cord is not adequate, although it is the same one she has been using since the PC was new, with no issues
battery will not charge, as a result. battery was replaced 6 months ago. removed battery, still get power error messages
constantly kicking her out of programs..
none of this was in evidence before the “upgrade”
beware.
Yes.
Click on 'View Installed Updates' (wait a send or two for it to load up), then scroll down the list until you find the offender and uninstall it.
Yes I have coded in assembly. I’m not sure what that has to do with your statement which was wrong.
Should read ‘wait a second’.
“My Computer” went away with XP. It’s now This PC. It ain’t yours. You’re just a customer of their software portal. Just like going to a club, they set the requirements, make all the rules and redecorate whenever they want.
If you don’t like it there’s always Linux. Oh, wait many new chip architectures don’t support Linux or more accurately non-MS OSs. Imo that’s what’s driving the current run on the AMD A10 7 series processors and A88X chipset boards.
Thanks. That exposed the files. Are they actively doing something or just waiting for full Win10 to be installed?
GWX Control Panel
http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2015/08/using-gwx-stopper-to-permanently-remove.html
GWX Control Panel is the easiest way for users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to protect their computers from Windows 10. With GWX Control Panel you can: Remove the “Get Windows 10” icon that appears in your notification area, prevent your Windows Update control panel from upgrading your computer to Windows 10, prevent your computer from secretly downloading Windows 10 installation files, detect and remove the hidden Windows 10 installation files if they’re already on your PC, optionally monitor your computer for unwanted Windows 10-related settings and files- and beginning with version 1.7 you can now easily delete some hard-to-remove program files that are known to cause Windows 10 upgrades and annoyances.
I saw updates but I didn’t see the ones you listed. But I will keep my eye on it. Thanks for your help.

I'm sure they know all of us Freepers by real name and when sharia is in effect they can find out who has been naughty and who has been nice.
You own your hardware. Fine. What use is hardware without some sort of operating environment? Unless you code your own operating environment from scratch, you don’t own shit. EVERY operating system has some level of “we can talk to your computer remotely if we have to.”
Post #21 Would that be a good idea? I’m old fashioned and like my privacy (more or less)
