Brent Hawkes, a prominent Toronto pastor, has been charged with committing sex crimes in Nova Scotia, lawyer Clayton Ruby confirmed to CBC News.
Ruby said his client was charged by the RCMP in December with indecent assault and gross indecency in Kings County, N.S. The offences are alleged to have happened in the 1970s.
The 65-year-old, who delivered the eulogy at former New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton's 2011 funeral, has been the senior pastor at the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto for nearly 40 years.
He is well known in the LGBT community, and has been recognized for his work by the City of Toronto, the United Nations Toronto Association, York University and the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission.
Hawkes was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2007 for his work in human rights and social justice in the LGBT community.
Who didn't see that coming?
Human rights and social justice and all that jazz too.
A true pillar of leftist society.
He’s always been, um, upright to his congregation.
Another queer molesting little boys? Who didn’t see that coming?
“Hawkes was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2007 ...”
They just might need an official “background check” before appointing to the Order of Canada .... just saying.
Gee, that guy is a pervert?
Shocked I am. /s
What denomination does he belong to? Must not be a RC priest - as it would have been in all capital letters if it was a Catholic!
I wonder if Jeffrey Anderson is reading this. It would give him a new source of income. Oh, wait. He only goes after the priests even if it is a 30-year-old crime and the priest is deceased.
