".....Larry Teeples, 74, a longtime member of the Jefferson city council, sat in the front row. He'd seen Chris Christie about a month ago and remained undecided, just six hours before the caucuses.
"I like what I've heard," he said as he waited for Cruz to arrive. But "I had a friend from Dallas who called and told me to vote for Trump; don't vote for Cruz."
Doris Hugg, 70, from nearby Crawford County, said she appreciated Cruz's effort to meet small town Iowans.
"It's because they care about what Iowans have to say. You can't get to know people by making six stops," said Hugg, who works as a dispatcher for her trucker husband.
"If a candidate only covers the populated areas, they don't care about guys like us in the rural areas," said Garry Higgins, 69, an Army veteran and retired security guard from Rippey, in Greene County. "They ought to run everywhere - not just where the people are."
And doing the full Grassley makes a candidate better, in his view.
"It helps them. People in Iowa are not shy about telling politicians how they feel," Higgins said.
Cruz delivered his usual stump speech, noting there were only five hours til the caucuses begin.
"This race is a statistical tie between me and Donald Trump. It all comes down to turnout, who shows up tonight at 7 pm," he said.

Trump sure is enjoying his tax payer trips. And before you tell me he isn’t using tax payer money. BS. He is getting a check every month for Senator work which he is not fulfilling. I’d love to know the last day he spent a full day working in his office in Washington.....1 year ago? Pretty close. What a welfare guy he is.
Cruz will never be President, ever. Won’t even be the nominee. Don’t know why Rush and Levin are acting like he has a chance, ulterior motives.
“This race is a statistical tie between me and Donald Trump.”
Um, no it isn’t. Maybe between you and Rubio.
Just heard Cruz on Hannity...he did good!
One Cruz sponsored Bill has become law
Rush and Levin versus Kenny
How many laws do you need Liberal?
My prediction is Cruz on top with 34% tonight.
Hahahaha!
>>My prediction is Cruz on top with 34% tonight.
LOL. That fits your tagline 100%.
Sic semper evello mortem tyrannis
They were exactly the same---the same promises, none of which Cruz and the Republicans fulfilled.
In other words, they LIED. All of them. NOW they want to give us the SAME promises and expect us to believe it THIS time.
ONE candidate has NOT broken his campaign promises: Trump. Does that mean he won't?
ONE thing is FOR CERTAIN: the REPUBLICANS, everyone of them, is a liar, they lied to us every election, and topped it all off with the promises of 2014---instead, after 2014 they gave Obama 2 trillion dollars to fund the complete lefist agenda. The Republicans have been the most solid supporters of Obama in Congress.
And we are going to fall for that yet again?
Go Cruz!

Praying continual.......Ted Cruz Lord if it be thy will.
Actually the last 2 polls to come out, done completely after the last debate, show a virtual 3 way tie between Trump, Cruz and Rubio. The Emerson College poll had Trump 27, Cruz 26 and Rubio 22; The Opinion Savvy poll has Trump 20.1, Cruz 17.4 and Rubio 18.6.
Two minor college polls that even Nate Silver dont take seriously.
And they are obviously the only two that Cruz people today think are accurate?
