Donald Trump has come under fire during the campaign for his supporting Hillary Clinton and specifically, the Clinton Foundation. Records show Trump donated $250,000 to the Foundation and many conservatives have questioned how he can run as a Republican while playing on his extensive ties with the Clintons.
Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump on Sunday explained why he gave a quarter of a million dollars to the Clinton Foundation before he ran for president.
“I did give to the Clinton Foundation. What I didn’t know is they’d be using it for private aircraft and things like that,” Trump said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“The Clinton Foundation was helping with Haiti and with lots of other things, and I thought it was going to do some good work, so it didn’t make any difference to me,” he added.
The real estate mogul also pointed to his business interests in cultivating support among politicians from each party.
“Again, I was a businessman, and it was my obligation to get along with everybody, including the Clintons, including Democrats and liberals and Republicans and conservatives,” he said. “As a businessman, I had an obligation to do that.”
As a high profile member of the New York establishment, Trump naturally gravitated toward the former president and his wife, the sitting Senator from the state. That he felt it necessary as a businessman to cultivate the Clintons is not in dispute. But some of the glowing words he had for Hillary are not easily reconciled with his current thoughts about her.
Is insincerity a part of "getting along" with everybody? That's what most Republicans will have to decide before they vote.

But we’re talking about THE DONALD! Who cares, no one owns him (even though he owes them).
Riiiight! But Ted Cruz’s loan with Goldman is a really big deal.
I am worthy of TWO replies? wow....
PS: no one said he does not donate........will that help?
Trump supported the Clintons with money, with words, and with deeds. They were pals. He defended Bill against the Republicans and claimed Bill’s obstruction of justice, perjury, and sexual harassment were unimportant. For Trump’s supporters, nothing he said, did, says, does, says he’ll say, or says he’ll do matters. There is the Trump of their dreams. The real Trump, the one with a biography and a real history, is off limits for serious discussion.
Give the Clintons a break. They only skim aboit 90 percent of the income to support their lavish lifestyle and salaries. /s
I wonder if the current Trump apologists have posts regarding Carly on her ties to the Clinton Foundation....
Yep. So reminiscent of 2008...
sometimes ScottinVa, if your a lucky one someone may even give you up to 3 or 4 of the screaming replies in a row..., they get on a roll and can’t hep themselves. Just watch.
According to some it is...that and the Citibank loan.
FWIW Cruz ranks third after Bush and Clinton in taking money from Wall Street...not exactly an outsider to the money lenders and financiers.
This was obvious to all but those who are unattractive to Zombies.
Ooh! Cruz has a loan with Citibank! So do I and millions of other Americans.
And once again, Trump’s longstanding relationships with big, NYC-based investment banks means absolutely nothing at all...
Federal disclosure rules are there for a reason and the fact is Cruz didn’t disclose his Wall St. connections properly in 2012 and omitted them altogether in 2015.
As Trump himself has pointed out...who borrows a $1,000,000 dollars to attain a job that pays $170K?
...and we’re still waiting to hear from how the Cruz family finances increased 1.5 million dollars since he was first elected.
For the same reason Trump seeks a job worth $400k.
...and weâre still waiting to hear from how the Cruz family finances increased 1.5 million dollars since he was first elected.
Would that include his wife's salary?
Like any charity, they have to publish information about how the money is spent. I would figure that Trump would have people who could look at that information. There have been several organizations that have questioned the WW project about their heavy administrative costs previously.
And, by contrast, the Trumpettes don’t think at all.
Whatever The Donald says (this week) is true, Amen!
Absolutely the case; the words this week, not last. That was a long time ago and it doesn’t count anymore.
you got it. AMEN
