Iowa's Secretary of State says a recent mailer from Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz's campaign "misrepresents Iowa election law."
The mailer bills itself as a "voting violation" and tells the recipient it's been sent due to "low expected voter turnout in your area."
It then grades the recipient's voting history and that of several neighbors, citing public records.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says in a statement that there's "no such thing as an election violation related to frequency of voting" and insinuating otherwise is "not in keeping in the spirit of the Iowa Caucuses."
The bottom of the mailer says registration and voter history are public records "distributed by the Iowa Secretary of State and/or county election clerks."
Pate's statement says his office "never 'grades' voters" and doesn't maintain caucus participation records. He notes state political parties -- not state or local election officials -- organize the caucuses.

my guess is a staffer that is motivated by passion rather than reason.
But Political Science is akin to blackest of magic. imo. LOL
This was totally new! There havenât been any posts about this!! Very exciting!!!
Using his office to support his candidate is unseemly as well...

Might just be Cruz realizes because of the nbc issue its impossible for him to become elected legally, and he refuses to drop out.
So.....he derails voter support.
No,No,No. You're doing it wrong! Anything derogatory or embarrassing to Cruz can be posted ad infinitum, only posts which are deemed anti Trump may be attacked with sarcasm, or usually more likely derision and insults.
Definite nominee for worst campaign move in a presidential election by someone already not knocking people over with the charm.
Let’s be honest, we don’t know Cruz himself authorized the use of this stupid mailer.
BUT we do know for sure he came out and defended it. Said it was “routine” and refused to apologize.
He could have taken the hit for making a mistake and being big enough to admit it, but instead he denied any wrongdoing, just like any other traditional politician.
I trust Iowan’s who know this Secretary of State are wise to him using his position to attack Cruz....
It should be obvious to any thinking Freepers that this is a game being played against Cruz...with Donald’s instigation.
SHAME....
ps. I do think it wasn’t a smart ad/mailer on Cruz’s part ... but STILL the response from the SOS says a LOT!!
Ted Cruz said this about it today,
“I will apologize to nobody”

Dumb move by Cruz.
Should have apologized and fired whoever responsible.
Instead, the campaign defends it.
Dumb meet Dumber.
(But at same time, the people saying Cruz is part of the GOP-e are even dumberer) ;)
Iowa GOP had their own version in 2014...another non-issue hyped by Trump.
Cruz can say what he wants.
This mailer insulted Iowa voters.
Does Cruz really think you have to shame and insult voters to get
to the polls?
He does not seem to have a high regard for Iowa voters.
And it showed in this mailer.
Cruz’s state chair was Iowa Sec State until last election, but didn’t run for re-election. Current Sec State had retired in that job in past but the old bull RINO returned this time to gripe about Cruz, although admitting it was legal. Cruz’s Sec State says this is fine. Iowa’s newest US Senator used similar mailings without criticism. As have LOTS of candidates around the country. ‘Tis a made up controversy by those who are afraid it might work. There certainly is no privacy issue as one’s voting history is public information (excepting the ‘for whom’ part). Whether it works can be debated, but it has tended to work in the past so keeps being used.
As opposed to not showing a high regard for Iowa voters, but ducking their debates?
Was a perfect opportunity for Cruz to shine.
Unfortunately for Cruz, his debate performance was not good.
Polls show Trumps absence did not hurt him
“What were Cruz’s people thinking?”
We are going to lose.
Seems over the top to me.
