Even if Iowa’s first-in-the-nation Republican caucuses do not always pick the winner, they have been known to derail front-runners. Trump knows this. So does Cruz. So do the pundits. And so do Republicans across the country.
Trump could really use a win in Iowa. If he gets it, along with the wins he has a good shot at securing in the ensuing New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries, he could be well on his way to becoming the Republican nominee.

No, I pay them. Donate dick.
Beck stunk up the place. UFOs to the rescue!
A case could be made that Beck derailed Cruz.
I think he shares DNA with Dick Morris
Trump went up six percentage points in Iowa and Cruz dropped five in the immediate aftermath of Palin’s endorsement. Other factors may have come in to play, but she sure as hell didn’t affect him the way Cruz’s affiliation with the Dying Ember did.
Good grief, Ted looks like he’s about to be executed in that picture. I almost feels sorry for the guy. Between Glenn Beck and his dad’s messianic vision of him, it seems like he has lost himself in all of it. It reminds me of the way so many charismatics in Christianity, speak their own prophecies and then try to manipulate God and everything else to get those prophecies fulfilled. Someone needs to remind Ted Cruz that if GOD has ordained that he be president, then he will be our next president. However, if God has not ordained him to be president, then no amount of declarations or prophecies will make him president.
As for Sarah Palin, I love her! And can’t wait to see her campaigning with The Donald tomorrow. I’m so, so proud of her for endorsing him. She is one smart lady.
Donate what?
Cruz isn’t Catholic? But his family is from Cuba - I mean, not many protestants that I know come from Cuba! Come on - Cuba? /s
She went full Ann Coulter by endorsing Mr Single Payor 2000.
True-fact bump. What Sarah said was, you can see Siberia from Alaska. That's true -- from Little Diomede Island in the Bering Strait, people can walk across the ice to Big Diomede, which is Russian, and might even (I'm not sure) see the mountains of the Chukchi Peninsula in Siberia on a clear day.
Sarah's statement was factual, Tina's was comic hyperbolization of what Sarah said.
Of course. You took for your screen name a reference to an old, high-snoot library at Oxford. Of course Sarah is a fishwife to you, a know-nothing nobody once lampooned as a moron blundering around with a salmon in her boot. Your character, personality, existence -- the whole package -- is totally invested in snobbery.
Of course you don't respect her; she needs to respect you, right?
Tons and tons of Atlantic-Slope women despise Sarah Palin right down to the ground. I read their blowtorch comments about Palin when Commentary threw the subject up for discussion five years ago this month. The more Mid-Atlantic they are, the more one-foot-still-on-the-boat they are, the less those critics, especially the women, respect, admire, or like "flyover" America and people.
"High negative" yourself. I'm an American. Bite me.
I picked the screen name because I love to read and I love libraries.
Palin has a high negative with me because she’s done a horrible job of raising her kids.
Well, maybe it was the "package", and oh, by the way, her kids made some crummy choices and her son has PTSD.
Yeah, I can see how that would be off-putting.
Cruz is a Southern Baptist.
Kasich was raised Catholic but he’s now an Anglican.
(I read his book: Every Other Monday)
Rubio was once a Mormon, but now Catholic again.
(In fact, Rubio was also a Baptist at one time)
Trump is a Presbyterian.
Carson is a Seventh Day Adventist.
Christie is a Catholic.
Jeb Bush is a Catholic.
She didn’t stay home with her children. They didn’t receive much guidance from her. They’re all big drinkers and partiers. That’s how they live, that’s not how I live.
I don’t really care what kind of glasses she wears and I’ve never even noticed the frames.
But she couldn’t raise her kids right, so no, she isn’t anyone who’s endorsement I’d give any value.
Well sure can’t disagree with that....I was being a bit generous
Yup, can't wait here too. Chris Matthews says he's feeling butterflies. Wait until he see this!
You nailed it. Ted looks pained. Lots of things look forced - Beck, some family pics/videos, his flat jokes at the debate, defending indefensible mailers.
I think this guy is cauught between his own ego and what everyone (dad, donors, etc) are expecting him to do.
Who knows? All I know is he is circling the drain.
Which is sad.
He could have been perfectly positioned to be great. Even if he didn’t make it this year, he’d have been able to set up for so many future runs if it worked out and probably won easily.
But something happened. Don’t know if it was sabotage, or the urge to win RIGHT NOW, or the inability to address some of the stupider things he or his campaign has done, but as of tomorrow I suspect Cruz will be in free-fall.
And despite all of my very loud arguments with Cruz supporters on FR, I don’t want to see the man crash and burn.
We’ll see.
I have lot much respect for Palin over the last 7 or 8 years!
