Why should he...unless it’s against the rules.

They had a distinct edge in micro targeting, which Romney's campaign did not match.

Yours is a very perceptive and important reply. It is relevant not just to a defense of Ted Cruz but as an understanding that what Obama did in 2012 has probably revolutionized how campaigns will be run.

Hopefully, Ted Cruz has adopted Barack Obama's successful data mining approach which Obama coupled with psychological profiling and extensive old-fashioned shoe leather campaigning by soldiers.

The best account of all of this that I have seen was presented in the MIT Technology Review.

I pray that at least one Republican gets it and I suspect Ted Cruz has. I am hopeful that what we call the "ground game" of Ted Cruz, which is really a modern digital campaign, will compensate for Trump's burlesque in the media.

Cruz has a lot of explaining to do..to his big daddy donor base. THAT’s who owns Cruz.

I am glad he said that and did not blame a staffer. He owned it. Might work out fine. I am so ready for Iowa to be over.

Ok Ted has spoken, and now the voters will speak. I guess it was the only way he could go. It will now be Trump number one, Rubio number two, in Iowa, watch.

Time for the other candidates to tar Cruz with this, it is indefensible.

I suspect Cruz Inc will be walking back their position within 24 hours.

Yes he owned it because he doesn’t see it as a mistake.

I think he is incorrect. I could be missing reports of people who have decided because of that mailer they are going to be running and voting for Cruz. I haven’t heard of one person admitting that yet.

Cruz is being crushed on twitter about it. Some who actually received those notices are furious.

I think it was a mistake.

I’m with you. It will be nice to have Iowa over with.

Kinda doubt that.

I was Cruz/Trump until two weeks ago... watch them team up now that I’ve washed my hands of both!

Yeah....how stupid of him not to have his daddy leave him a $200 million company so he could become “self-made.”

I just voted for him in the FR caucus thread. He has military and executive experience! I just the side-bar in his wikipedia page!

I like Cruz just fine and apologizing is not good, but it sounds like a creepy campaign tactic.

Cruz said from the begining he would determine what he would fight or not.....not the media....and not things he wasn’t going to waste time on that people love to make something of other than the issues we face as a country.

This is a petty issue....he is wise to make his statement and let the chips fall however...he’s otherwise focused on what does matter.

Cruz is using the same methods, and perhaps some people are unfamiliar with them, and may not like them. That is your privilege. But it is not a privilege of any Republican campaign to be doing battle with pre-modern information technology and methods.

I have no doubt that micro-targetting is effective. I have real doubt that this specific kind of threatened public shaming has really proven to be universally effective on all demographic/political groups.
