Ted Cruz: He was a bit prickly at the start (and then had his attempt at a joke interrupted in an inopportune way by the crowd and Chris Wallace) but gave a series of very strong answers as the debate progressed, had a good closing, and had a good night. He gave compelling answers on ethanol, why he's not a favorite of Washington politicians, and--especially--immigration. As the polling leader among those who weren't AWOL, he was under fire--both from the other candidates and the moderators-more than anyone else on the stage, but that cut both ways: He was front and center, he got a lot of speaking time, and the debate both began and ended with him. Iowa voters may have preferred him to Trump in the role of the central candidate on the stage--we'll know soon enough...

Good night, Bush. Good night, Cruz.
What happens when a ball team refuses to play or simply no show?
I think it is called Forfeit......lose.
No show in court......lose Trump lost...the debate
This is almost exactly how I saw the debate too. I was shocked when most of the reviews came out more negative for Cruz - especially on the immigration debate where I thought Cruz had won hands down.
Yep, I think you nailed the outcome for Donald Trump this Monday.
Good point..Love the sports analogy!
I am so ready to be finished with Iowa. The entire primary. Seems to last forever.
True..it’s True!!!!!
Time will tell!
I got up to the part where Chris Wallace snubbed him, and thought, oh boy here we go. I then briefly went into the kitchen to help the wife, and by the time I got back Cruz was tearing it up...and that continued for the remainder of the debate.
After Bush’s debate performance, he might actually get a bump. But with Ted Cruz turnout game, I would not be surprised if he wins by a large margin on Monday. And then we will all be treated to the mother of all tweet-storms by Donald Trump. He will probably use his voter rolls to make sure no Iowan is be spared!
We're at the stage where most issue polls often reflect the popularity of the candidate, rather than the issue itself.
Between them, Trump and Rubio have more supporters than does Cruz. But Cruz may have more supporters than does either Trump or Rubio.
We'll just have to wait and see...
I really hope you are right. I would love to have Cruz be the nominee and actually be able to be excited about our party’s nominee for the first time in my life.
Its hard to listen to and take Jeb! seriously after he said he wanted to win without Conservatives. so in any debate he’s in I instantly ignore him.
Well I believe that Ted himself said just the other day that if Trump takes Iowa and New Hampshire that he might well be unstoppable. No votes have yet been cast and Iowa has been very unpredictable in the past so you might be sensing something that all the talking heads are not. It will be fun to see.
I’m reading a lot of conflicting views. Cruz won to Cruz lost big is one example.
My take:
It won’t move the needle for anyone and it’s already forgotten.
If you study the history of Ted’s ground game it is nothing short of awe inspiring. He could be way put ahead for all we know. His team can turn people out like nobody’s business!
Agreed, but he still had a good night..for Jeb.
I would say you are probably correct...but other than towards the beginning, I thought his performance was good enough on balance to pick up a few votes.
