UCI Black Student Union wants campus police force abolished

The Black Student Union at UC Irvine is calling for the university to dismantle its police force, which the student organization alleges has failed to address safety concerns for black students on campus.

The group sent a letter to UCI administrators Monday demanding that the campus Police Department and any additional "paramilitary force presence" be abolished in three to six months.

The school administration stated "they have no plans to abolish the police force but will continue to encourage dialogue with the Black Student Union."

For reference, the cost of attending UC Irvine per year:

Tuition and fees + living expenses

California residents: $46,326.44

Out of state residents: $71,037.44

Could you imagine shelling out that kind of money for your child to attend University of California at Irvine, then to be informed the the campus police force was to be abolished?

I hope the UCI administrators stay firm in their resolve to keep the campus police force.

You don’t actually think these spoiled brats paid anything right? The reason why the school is probably so expensive, is so black kids can get scholarships and go free. I do not know this for a fact, but have heard of this approach at other schools.
