One of the greats, along with his teacher, Franz Josef Haydn, and a slightly later contemporary, the acme ... Ludwig van Beethoven.

The composer of the most sublime music and melody ever.

If you ever get a chance to go to the Mid-Summer Mozart Festival in the S.F. Bay Area at the end of July every summer, you gotta go. Maestro George Cleve, a Mozart scholar, is the director and conductor. It is a magnificent two-week event.

Mozart: Symphony #39 in E-flat, K. 543, minuet (3rd movement)

John Eliot Gardiner conducting the English Baroque Soloists. The "trio" section in the middle is a countermelody to the minuet proper. This permits Mozart to transition from the trio back to the minuet without a cadence. It's pretty slick.

Did you know that Mozart died while he was writing ‘The Requiem’.

I can’t believe it’s been that long. I knew him when he was just Joey.

Mozart: Piano Concerto #20 in D minor, K. 466, first movement

Mozart points the way to Beethoven. Condi Rice's favorite concerto, which she played in a competition as a teenager.
