Donald Trump wasted no time Wednesday morning fanning the flames of his newly reignited feud with Fox News star Megyn Kelly.
"I refuse to call Megyn Kelly a bimbo, because that would not be politically correct," the Republican presidential front-runner said in an early morning tweet. "Instead I will only call her a lightweight reporter!"
Trump has taken issue with Kelly since the two faced off in last summer's Fox News debate - the first Republican debate of the 2016 election cycle.
Trump's last throw down with "The Kelly File" host was similarly punctuated by the b-word [Aug 24, 2015].
The rivalry was restarted Tuesday night after the real estate mogul announced through his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, that he would not be participating in Thursday's Republican debate, which is slated to air on Fox News.
In a pre-rally press conference in Iowa City, Iowa, Trump referred to Kelly as a "lightweight" and a "third-rate reporter," and suggested he would be sitting out the debate in favor of a charity event for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Kelly quickly responded on her show by declaring that she would not step down as moderator.
Her network soon followed suit with their own response, accusing Lewandowski of threatening Kelly, and vowing to not to give into "terrorizations."
This is the "serious journalist" trying to be serious.
Dignity is something that we can’t afford to keep if it means losing the war. Not when the country is like this.
Of all the things we have in this fight, it is the one thing that we can afford to lose the most.
Like his results or hate them; Donald’s tactics are amazingly effective.
Yes, but to be clear, my point was the title of the posting was different (obvious why) than the actual tweet. Much disinformation and propaganda, on both sides, admittedly. I don’t mind people promoting their view and/or opinion as it’s all fair game, however, I do not like dubious motives when purposefully misleading with false titles, certain aspects of a title or body left out on purpose, etc. Let the reader beware, I guess.
This isn’t petty; this is keeping control of the dialogue.
And it’s not a war against MK; it’s a fight against Fox News, which has betrayed their principles. And in turn, also a warning to the rest of the media; Trump isn’t just going to roll over and play dead like the rest of the candidates.
Yeah right, like the ‘mature’ candidates have handled things any better?
It’s not 1980 any more. You can either win with an effective candidate that you don’t like, or you can lose.
Yes, calling Megyn Kelly a bimbo is petty for a presidential candidate.
Another political coup for Trump. Already positioning for the general, where disdain for FOX will be a big plus.
“And itâs not a war against MK; itâs a fight against Fox News, which has betrayed their principles.”
I agree in part. It is a fight against Fox. That is true.
Calling MK a “Bimbo” isn’t an act of “war”or at least, aggression?
Out of curiosity, if someone called your significant other or child a Bimbo, would you just smile and shrug it off, or would you, rightly so, retaliate in kind?
This non-pc stuff is fun to listen to. It’s Freedom of Speech. People need to remember that Freedom of Speech does in fact come at a cost. If you call someone a “Non-Pc” name, you better be willing to back it up with verbiage or fist. If you are an adult who stoops to childish tactics, you better be willing to take a little heat.
Then Vive La Petty.
It worked!
If someone slandered me on the air for weeks on end after trying to trap me with a loaded gotcha question and was planning to do the same to me again?
I’d call her a lot worse than a bimbo.
Yes.
And some of these comments are exactly what Corey Lewandowski was suggesting to Trump’s followers.... ‘I would hate to have her go through that again.’
I’ve seen that picture.
To each her own. It isn’t what I would ever suggest for my daughters or their friends but....
Look at Trump’s wife before you start criticizing others’ state of public undress for publicity.
“Look at Trumpâs wife before you start criticizing othersâ state of public undress for publicity”
Trump’s wife dresses just fine.
I think that was the straw. Who wrote that?
Megyns trouble after the last incident was self imposed. She was MIA
She was sick, er, on vacation. Yeah, that’s it!
As another poster described it....
MehGyn jumped the whale.
And yes, I agree, that was the straw. Trump would have put up with Megyn and even the planned ambush by the muslim and the Mexican. The stupid press release gives him plausible justification to make a command decision. Bam - he demonstrates leadership.
Megyn Kelly, Vanity Fair:
“But every so often, as all [women] know, you have to stop and slap somebody around a little bit who doesnât understand that we are actually equals and not second-class citizens.â
Fox News:
“What kind of a conservative would say such things about a lady? What kind of a man would say such things?
Surely such words do not reflect the âNew York valuesâ that Mr. Trump so cherishes.”
So is Megyn Kelly a second-class citizen or not? Can she take some slapping around as well as doling it out?!
I think they would have set him up to make him look foolish on stage to the point of walking off the stage... Here he controls the outcome. If it costs him vote fine. Don’t know why he’s meeting with O’Reilly other than to give O’Reilly the chance to tell him he’s wrong.
I would turn the interview around. Ask O’Reilly if he thought the press release and having plants there proper? Ask him if he honestly considered it to be a true debate.
Gives Trump a chance to express the basis for his decision, and Fox/O'Reilly a chance to defend the network. It shows that Trump is open to a "fair hearing," let the listeners decide. Plus, there are issues that dwarf the conduct of one debate. Trump can play up that a debate without him on the stage gives the other candidates more time and room to sell themselves to the public. He can be magnanimous about it.
