After an insulting press release from FOX News, Donald Trump has announced that he will not be participating in the Iowa Fox News debate and instead will host a fundraiser for wounded warriors. Stefan Molyneux dissembles the media narrative around the latest Trump controversy, and turns a spotlight on the constant manipulation.
I remember the Lincoln v. Douglas debates, those were pretty good too.
Trump didn't create the circumstances on his own. He stepped into the race, asserted certain proposition, and is reacting to events and criticisms.
His media prominence includes some people who view him as a train wreck, and others view him as a leader who puts American interests first. Both groups have big numbers.
Politically, he is a pariah. See 22 leaders of NR, Levin is openly disdainful, Limbaugh is more clever. Only the "extreme" politicians such as Sessions and Palin support Trump - the others see him as a lesser of two evils, but still evil.
At any rate, the battleground was established the moment Trump entered the race. But the "screw Fox News" move is reactionary on his part. He's chosen an unconventional path. People will analyze that in light of their own bias.
He isn’t my first pick, but he definitely shows a talent for bold strokes and decisive action. He has just taken control of the debating field. Fox can march to his tune or pound sand.
Did you read Adam’s article?
Trump shows that he’s tough enough to do what a lot of people wouldn’t do or what a lot people think a candidate shouldn’t do, especially where it doesn’t concern them because they are not the ones trying to get themselves elected.
Send Trump and Megyn back to middle school where they belong. Let the adults debate the serious issues facing our country.
Trump followers notion of ‘fair’ debate:
Moderator: “Mr Trump will you please tell us how great a president you will be?”
Moderator: “Mr Trump, please tell us how blessed we are that you are going to lead us”.
Moderator: “Mr Trump please tell us of your HUGE plans to make America great again!”.
Moderator: “Mr Trump, after this debate I would love to get on my knees and kiss your ass. Where does the line form?”
Moderator: “Finally Mr Trump, we fired Megan and shipped her off to Iraq to be enslaved by ISIS. Is that satisfactory to you?”
I hope he doesn’t back off. I mean even if the take her off the debate panel, he should stay off.
He gains nothing by going and wins by staying away esp if it’s to a small little Iowa Townhall Meeting.
I did. Trump is playing his cards well. But the situation that "creates the cards" isn't wholly of his own making.
Is Trump skilled at creating a public perception of what he is? Yes. So is Cruz, so is Rubio, so is Obama. Jeb, not so much.
“(we all have seen how horrible he preforms) “
I don’t know about that. He sure slapped Cruz down last time. Went up 11 points. Cruz had him looking silly.
Now, we find that Trump was right. Cruz is a tarnished candidate. He took him out like he did the garbage. It started in the last debate.
I agree with you, that he stands to gain nothing, and runs the risk of looking bad, very bad, if they all gain up on him which they would.
NO...Take the high ground. IF anything.. he’s been over exposed at these things.. Then the poll afterwards...
I actually wasn’t going to watch these this time anyway.
Are you or anyone here watching Fox News, MOre, less or the same? With me it is most definitely LESS MUCH less.
My TV was turned on to Fox News all my waking hours. It never left that channel unless I was watching a movie.
I flip to news for the debates, back to TCM when the debates are done. I don't enjoy hearing the talking heads telling me how to think.
For a year and a half or so, I watched CSPAN-2 full time, kept an online journal of it. Senate by Cboldt. Quit when Obama was elected.
Mr. Trump has now overtaken Tom Brady as acrybaby. If he had any guts,he would show up to the debate and answer Kelly’s questions
His inner Democrat has come out, and like the liberals on campus, he’s headed to his safe zone where the big meanie Megyn cannot ask Trump tough questions that reveal his character.
“Trump takes a knee with three quarters left to go in the game.”
You’re politically very naive if you can’t tell the difference between a touchdown and a “knee”.
it wasn’t about Kelly even though Fox News lovers say it is.. it’s about telling the media to go shove it.. and you think that’s a loser for Trump with voters?..
Hahahaha. This used to be my routine... Come home turn on Fox News... then steer over to TCM to see what the slate is. IF it’s something that looks interesting I’ll record and watch fox, watch it or do both...Then Going back to watch the entire Fox line.
Now....I listen to The Five on the way home...Get home pour up a glass of wine.. Check FR...start to think about what to eat... turn on Bret Bair and record to hear Kraut’s comments and then turn over to TCM. Check to see if The Blackhawks are playing tonight..practice my guitar fifteen minutes...
In short, FOX is off. NO recording nothing. Maybe I’ll stick around w Greta for five minutes...
I love TCM...esp Clark Gable, GAry Cooper etc festivals...
Once they start commercials... IT’s over. I used to watch AMC...now never..
BTW have you seen this movie The Intern? Delightful!!!!!!!
“Moderator: âFinally Mr Trump, we fired Megan and shipped her off to Iraq to be enslaved by ISIS. Is that satisfactory to you?â”
Actually, I like your last one above, lol. How about this one:
Moderator: Mr. Trump, did I hear you right? Did you just tell all of us Fox moderators to pound sand?
Don't any of the wannabees have enough cunning to turn this around to their advantage? They should be THANKING Mr. Trump for giving them the opportunity to show their presidential potential. Who knows? There might be someone on that stage with solid potential to be VP.
Cruz asking for a debate just with Trump is particularly weird. For one reason, I'd think it would make the others dislike him, trying to leave them behind. Secondly, if he owns that debate, he'll stop losing supporters as fast as he gains them.
JMHO
Little advice for the Cruz people:
Stop trying to cheerlead for the press. No one is impressed by it.
