Just over the Illinois border, East Chicago City, Indiana is the home of a rather bizarre incident: a city councilman has been re-elected, despite being hit with federal murder and drug charges. That elected official would be Robert Battle, who ran unopposed and was sworn in for his second term on the council in county jail

Given the idiocy of our country, our next president may be taking her oath from jail too.
Oh forgot, our Just-Us Department of Quota Cretins will never convict her.
Never mind.
Maybe we will see a reprise next January: ‘Hillary Clinton Takes Oath of Oval Office From Prison’...I wouldn’t doubt it.
Illinois politicians have a habit of ending their terms in jail, but starting them in jail? That’s got to be a first.
Next election will he even be able to vote for himself?
Here in Pennsyltucky an ex-con was elected to the McKeesport City Council, but has been barred from actually taking the oath by state law. The usual suspects are lobbying the Governor for a pardon.
Hey, if Harold Ballard could run the Toronto Maple Leafs from his cell...
We are circling the drain.
From CNN, 2005...
In 1990, the FBI busted Washington, D.C., Mayor Marion Barry for crack cocaine. Today, the 68-year-old self-proclaimed "mayor for life" is back in politics, serving on the D.C. City Council. ...
In January 1990 Barry's political reign came to an abrupt halt when he was caught on video in an FBI sting operation smoking crack cocaine with a woman at the Vista Hotel. The incident -- played over and over on cable television -- produced what is perhaps the most memorable quote of Barry's long career: "The bitch set me up."

This isn’t Illinois.
“Do you solemnly swear to uphold and enforce the gang laws of the city of Chicago?”
Why Surreal? Seems appropriate to me...
Boston’s James Michael Curley was elected to a city office while in jail and later was sent to jail while mayor.
Truman gave him pardons for both sentences.
The Democrats doing what Democrats do.
.
This is Indiana.
Mea culpa.
But don’t the Chicago gangs run E Chicago too?
No no, that crook is from Indiana not Illinois, but it’s easy to get confused.
as I read the piece he is from Indiana , not illinois. East Chicago is apparently in Indiana.
“Illinois politicians have a habit of ending their terms in jail, but starting them in jail? Thatâs got to be a first.”
This struck me as odd also. Well, in our fast paced world, he did well, cutting down the “process time” to zero! Well done! And they say America can’t compete anymore...
Alrighty then. /amh
“as I read the piece he is from Indiana , not illinois. East Chicago is apparently in Indiana.”
East Chicago is effectively a suburb of Chicago, although it’s in Indiana.
Setting a precedent for Hitlery’s swearing in
