Poll: Evangelicals flocking to Trump

Donald Trump's outreach to Christians is bearing fruit, if results of the NBC News/Survey Monkey weekly online tracking poll out Tuesday are any indication.

Among white evangelical Republican voters nationally, Trump earned the support of 37 percent, while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, whose father is a pastor and has played a key role in recruiting faith leaders to support his son, is at 20 percent. In the same survey conducted the previous week, Cruz registered 9 percentage points higher. Below the top two contenders, Ben Carson earned 11 percent among evangelicals, and Marco Rubio took 10 percent.

The Manhattan business mogul, who is Presbyterian, made headlines throughout the course of the past week for his various interactions with fellow Christians, including a stop at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, last Monday. Delivering the weekly convocation address, Trump caused a stir when he made reference to a book in the Bible a "Two Corinthians," rather than the usual nomenclature, "Second Corinthians." (Trump later claimed that it was written that way in his notes, and besides, his mother was Scottish and would have said it that way.)

Trump also attended a Presbyterian service in Muscatine, Iowa, on Sunday, at which the pastor made reference to the ongoing immigration crisis, a central plank in the Republican's campaign, and humility, in general. "I don't know if that was aimed at me, Trump said later.

The poll's overall week-to-week standings show little shift with Trump leading the field at 39 percent, Cruz at 17 percent and Rubio at 10 percent. No other candidate received double-digit support.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton's advantage remained in double digits, at 51 percent to Bernie Sanders' 37 percent.

The poll was conducted online from Jan. 18 to 24, surveying a national sample of 9,690 adults, including 8,215 who indicated that they are registered to vote. The poll included 2,327 Republicans and 2,780 Democrats with margins of error of 2.8 percentage points and 2.2 percentage points, respectively.

Heh heh, I’d have to be God to know all the answers, but the Lord sometimes talked about reading spiritual developments like we read weather. Can that notion be generalized... MAYBE it could... generally if you see God’s ducks lining in a row, one shouldn’t be surprised then to hear a shot.

I think we all ought to try to perceive, as best we can, what the Lord might be seeking to work in the present situation. We can’t idolize a person whether for sacred or secular reasons. Who’s following a line of destiny that looks like it is going to yield a blessing?

I think support for Trump will open up the door for discussions with him about the content of his agenda. We might find some more gems.

Satan laughs at people like you who are so self-righteous and un-Christlike, you keep the perishing from even considering the love of God which is in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Since you obviously believe that Donald Trump is evil incarnate, why don’t you spend your time praying for his salvation as was commanded in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, instead of tearing down your fellow believers for simply disagreeing with you politically?

Have you never read your Bible, which tells us that it is GOD who raises up one and puts down another? (Psalm 75:7) And that the powers that be are ordained by God? If Donald Trump wins the nomination and becomes president of the United States, it is because ALMIGHTY GOD, raised him up to be the president of the United States at this particular time in history. If Ted Cruz is the one that God wants to be president, the Lord will move the hearts of the voters as He did to the people of Israel in the Old Testament. Remember, the Bible says that the heart of the King is in the Lord’s hand, He turns it whereever He will. At least for now it seems that God is appointing Donald Trump to lead this nation. So try and relax and let God be God

Do we need to make the person secular either?

BOL: One of our sons is a great duck hunter. One time, he swung his gun barrel at and past a flock of approachings and did the Trig/geometry thing swung through and fired once.

He took out the lead duck and the next 4 in the V. A limit with one shot.

(1) Valid consideration. How well poised are we to ask for this.

(2) Can we find it in ourselves to give glory to God for any good that has happened through Trump already?

Less backing Trump and more sucking up to Trump. Desperate to keep their money and power.

Ok. I didn’t hear it. You’d think video would be up by now. My guess is that Trump is angry over Cruz’ dishonest campaign ads. But I agree with you. That’s inappropriate language.

It’s arguably so. We don’t have a clear cut case, only a very messy picture. They may be seeing what I saw some months back: a diamond in the rough that seems poised to become polished. The devil (and God) are in the details of his “deal.”

St Matthew 7:2-3

2. For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you.

3. Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?

“Satan must be laughing. Trump makes Christians look like idiots and acts like the liberals stereotype of the ugly Christian, without any serious evidence he is saved.”

I completely disagree.

I think the self-righteous, I”m more Christian than you types who act like they can see into Trump (or anyone’s) soul make Christians look terrible. The rigid, “ not Christian enough” positions are those made fun of by mainstream America. The pious, holier-than-thou snobs who act like if anyone EVER was a liberal, or exhibited anything liberal in the past, there is no hope for redemption and the Christian elitists on high will deem them unworthy. That self-aggrandizing, Christians are so much better than anyone attitude is PRECISELY what gives Christians a bad name to the larger world. The judgmental attitude from people who themselves are not perfect.

Guess there is no point in anyone maturing in their political judgment right? There will always be the ‘perfect’ wringing their hands and mocking anyone who didn’t have a flawless Christian predigree. That is as off-putting as anything else.

Need I remind everyone that some of the most heinous crimes on this planet were directed toward innocent children at the hands of the ordained, trusted, Christian leaders?

I wish The Perfect Council was more comfortable with their own humanity. Alas, they sit on Earth in pious judgment of all things ‘not Christian enough’ Tell me how that attracts the masses, not only to Christ’s message, but politically? It does not.
