With voting in Iowa a week away, there is panic in Washington DC over what looks like the need to choose between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz
In the good old days, we used to sit by the fire and complain about the liberal Republican establishment that favoured moderates like Gerald Ford over conservative heroes like Ronald Reagan.
We live in much more complex times now. Today, as fears grow that we might have to make a binary choice between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, it is becoming clear that this is really a tale of two establishments.
Facing what Washington DC journalist David Drucker describes as a "Sophie's choice" - except Sophie loved her kids and this is a lesser of two evils situation - modern establishmentarians are forced to side with an ally they never thought they'd encounter.
In this case, we are witnessing "Republican establishment" members siding with Donald Trump and "conservative establishment" members - some of whom have lived in Washington DC for decades and have amassed millions of dollars by working in the conservative movement and casting themselves as "outsiders" - siding with Cruz....

The guy running a pro Cruz and separate anti Trump Super PAC was McConnell’s lawyer during his run against Bevin.
Maybe the reason Cruz kept all his committee positions and avoided any official reprimand after calling McConnell a liar is that he had permission to do it.
The conspiracy theories can run both ways.
Cruz “had permission to call McConnell a liar?”
Wow, that is way-out there.
For years the E-GOP, the Chattering Class, and K-Street have haven given us the evil of two lessers, Dole, McCain, Romney and some might say the Bushes.
Now they have to choose what in their mind is the evil of two lessers.
I say give them both ( Trump / Cruz ticket ) and watch their heads explode...
No more so than Trump being an Establishment tool.
What committee positions did Cruz lose? What censure did he suffer? Why is a McConnell lawyer running a pro Cruz PAC?
Maybe Cruz honestly blew those campaign filings and loan disclosures. Maybe McConnell duped him and caused him to misvote. Maybe Cruz simply can’t find a consular birth record.
If we are going to judge candidates based on conspiracy theories, there’s plenty to be had on all sides.
It’s a rough game, but it only really hurts if the eventual winner of the primary race is too wounded or insufficiently vetted. Let’s hope that’s not the case with whoever gets the nod to run against Sanders or Clinton.
Keep posting.
Yeesh.
Yer a grumpy Gus
Right.
Maybe.
And maybe Trump didn’t donate to Harry Reid, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Anthony Weiner, Charlie Rangel, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, as well as, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell.
But he did.

Jan 7, 2016 - Chuck Schumer: “...Donald Trump is the only Republican candidate who says don’t cut Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security, he’s the only Republican candidate who’s against free trade,” Schumer explained. “He’s the only one who voices clearly this idea that ‘well if very wealthy people aren’t paying their fair share of taxes, they ought to.’”

June 16, 2016: “....Trump defended his donations to New York Democrats in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity that April, proclaiming that in the state, “everyone is Democratic” and implying that to donate otherwise would be waste of his money.
“So, what am I going to do, contribute to Republicans? Am I going to contribute to, I mean, one thing I’m not stupid. Am I going to contribute to a Republican for my whole life when they get, they run against some Democrat. And the most they can get is one percent of the vote,” he said, noting his “good relationship” with and donations to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). Trump last donated to Schumer directly in 2010, though he had made donations ranging from $250 to $2,000 since 1996.
“I mean, I’ve contributed to Schumer, I contribute - I’ve known Schumer for many, many years. And I have a good relationship with him. The fact is, that I think it is time maybe that we all do get along,” he told Hannity.”..

Come back from the dark side and realize what Trump really stands for. Sure he opened up the flood gate for discussion but that is it.
He promised the moon but will deliver a gravel pit filled with empty promises
I want to know why no one has posted quotes from Trump’s book The America We Deserve from his 2000 bluff.
Bad part about Trumpanzees RINOe is that they just do not want to be educated and just want to keep their heads in the slop trough where it is warm.
They only come out when poked in the rump to attack Conservatives. Great article by the way. Pins down Trump as being part of the GOPe and Cruz as the only real Conservative running in the top tier. They have this correct. Trump has donated more money to the GOPe than probably more people realize.
It’s been discussed if you want to search for Trump and authoritarianism.
