Cruz Super PAC Warns of 'TrumpCare' in New Ad
National Review Online ^ | January 25, 2016 | TIM ALBERTA

Posted on 01/25/2016 9:27:19 PM PST by CA Conservative

A super PAC supporting Ted Cruz is airing a new TV ad in Iowa that goes for the policy jugular against Donald Trump, equating his past statements on universal health care to positions held by President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

The ad, created by Keep the Promise I and shared first with NRO, warns of yet another big-government health care program: "TrumpCare."

"First there was HillaryCare. … Then there was ObamaCare," the narrator says, knitting together video footage of both Democrats arguing for "universal health care."

Then a still-shot of Trump appears, and the narrator intones: "We can't afford TrumpCare." The ad splices together portions of Trump's "60 Minutes" interview from September with Scott Pelley, in which Trump tells the CBS anchor, "Everybody has to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say" When Pelley presses him - "Universal healthcare?" - Trump responds, "I am going to take care of everybody."

"Who pays for it?" Pelley asks. "The government's gonna pay for it," Trump replies.

Trump also referred to the Federal government “making a deal with the hospitals” in that interview. I am sure that deal will be as easily declined as the “deal” I have with the IRS.

In the interview Trump said multiple times “everyone will be treated” and “the government will pay for it”. The interviewer asked for clarification, and Trump repeated it.

Since we all know the government does not generate a revenue via any products or services, where will all the money to “pay for it” come from, exactly?

I am a Cruz guy but I have yet to hear what will happen if he manages to get rid of Obamacare without a plan to take care of the People who will lose their Healthcare Coverage. I will have to research it and see.

It would be interesting to see such research if you ever get around to it. It's an important issue, and reading a well-informed Freeper thoughtfully going through it would be interesting.

Trump has clearly stated that he supports a free market solution, including reforms such allowing interstate purchase of insurance.

Trump said he supports that now because he no longer thinks we could get single payer like Canada - not because he doesn't believe in single payer. But what if he could 'make a deal' with enough Dems and liberal Republicans to get a single payer system just like the ones in Canada and Scotland he admires so much - you don't think he would do it?

China. Donald's favorite trading partner.

I actually know people who love Obamacare. You know, the ones that aren't getting soaked like my Wife and I are. LOL

They will never Vote for anyone that just says “repeal it”, and their Votes count the same as ours.

They will work to banish any offending Politician to the Cornfield to protect their Obamacare Entitlement.

They have no idea how Obamacare is failing because it isn't failing for them. Ignorance is bliss when you don't have pick up the Tab. Ribeyes and Champagne for everyone!

How about his closing argument:
Donald Trump: --the government's gonna pay for it. But we're going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most it's going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.

So, to summarize:

Did anyone else just have an Obamacare bill passage flashback? Trump also tacked on "they can have everything" for a little one-upsmanship. You know, selling to people's fantasies, right out of "The Art of the Deal".

He states over and over and over and over and over and over...

He is going to see to it that states lower their restrictions on insurance companies doing business across state lines, or several state lines.

Insurance companies today are limited to where they can do business.

The effect of this will be more competition, lower prices policies, and a more diversified set of policies.

You tell me how this is a move to single payer.

In fact it’s a move to explode the number of payers.

So, to summarize:

Notice you left out the :"for the most part it's going to be a private plan." So much for "Trump supporters Single Payer!!!"

Does Cruz have a health care plan?

If not, why not?

If so, it must be called CruzCare. Sounds like Obamacare.

Trump has consistently said he is for universal healthcare and that he is quite liberal on healthcare.

He says we can “improve on the prototype”.

You still are avoiding my question. Please point out one specific instance where Trump has denounced his belief in a single-payer system. What you are citing is his current position, which he admits is only because he doesn't think a single payer system will work here now. What I am pointing out is that he has never said he doesn't believe in or prefer government-run universal healthcare - he has just said, not right now.

In short, I am saying that his policy preferences are liberal; you are pointing out that his current tactics are somewhat conservative.

Don’t worry about it. Trump says everyone will be covered and the government will pay for it. Sounds just like Sanders. Neither have a clue as to how their grand socialist health care schemes will be paid for.

It was long version of “for most of you today, nothing will change”, but with the private sector phrase added in. So it was worded differently enough from the Obamacare pitch set that I didn’t include it in the list.

So please explain how “I am going to take care of everybody.” and “The government’s gonna pay for it,” is not a single payer system, if not forced, then by default. Trump has never retracted his comments about wanting a single payer system, only that he was not sure the Americna voter would go for it.

This is exactly what Hawaii enacted for minors the year before Obamacare. The private sector was there, but the State would cover all children not already covered. The people’s response: they dropped their children from their private plans in droves. The system collapsed under it’s own weight in 9 months and was repealed shortly after. The mainland largely ignored the perfect example of “50 experiments, loosely joined in a union.” Just like the founders envisioned.

So please explain how “I am going to take care of everybody.”

Because there are many ways besides Single Payer, which he clearly rejects, to "take care of everybody."

I just explained to you what his program is.

If you want to claim that’s single payer, go ahead.

Evidently you don’t understand the meaning of what I just told you.

I tell you this will blow up the number of providers and you are still lost in the single payer zone.

Can’t help you.

I’ve already told you more than enough.

Look how utterly uninformed you people are that you don't know Trump has publicly rejected Single Payer. I'd rather just let you feebs rot in your ignorance than bother to educate you on something every Freeper has known since Trump's speech on the topic.

But he said “I am going to take care of everybody” when asked how, he said “the government’s going to pay for it” not “there are many ways besides single payer”.

For someone who is heavily scrutinizing for any mis-quotes, that was a pretty big one on your part.

Trump said in his rallies, “sorry, conservatives, but we’re going to cover everyone.” Whatever his plan is, if there’s a safety net that guarantees coverage, then it’s socialism which will be abused. We have a “food” safety net that’s wildly abused. TrumpCare will be too. It will be single-payer health care for everyone who is smart enough to realize that if they don’t work or hide their income, the government will cut the check for everything they need.
