WASHINGTON, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Inmates who were sentenced to life imprisonment as juveniles should be able to file for a re-evaluation -- and possibly attain parole, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday.

In a 6-to-3 ruling, the high court ruled a 2012 decision prohibiting minors from being sentenced to life in prison without parole should be retroactive to include all applicable cases.

In delivering the opinion for the court, Justice Anthony Kennedy said the ruling doesn't automatically grant parole -- just the right to a review, which could lead to parole.

Justices Scalia, Alito and Thomas dissented, IMO, rightfully so.

If as a juvenile you commit a crime so heinous as to get a sentence of life without possibility of parole, then maybe that person is so broken that it will never be safe to release them.

If any of these murderers get released on parole you can expect family members of the victim won’t be happy. What’s to stop them from getting revenge?

I personally believe that there are some sins that are flat out unforgivable in this world and possibly the next (I cannot speak for god).

There are some acts like Genocide, mass murder of innocents, blatant premeditated murder that can never ever be forgiven BY SOCIETY EVER.

If i juvenile kills in this manner, they should rot for the rest of their life. PERIOD.

"The opportunity for release will be afforded to those who demonstrate the truth of [the case's] central intuition -- that children who commit even heinous crimes are capable of change," Kennedy said.

Typical "It's for the children" liberal response.

IMO, whatever your age, once you commit a heinous crime, you are no longer a child.

Next up for vote: What is considered a juvenile?
Answer? Anyone under 50.

Just look at what is considered that under obamacare and gun crimes.

Anyone believe that this isn't racially motivated?

After all - which demographic group sends the largest percentage of it's teenage males to the pokey for the most serious felonies?

No, it's not the Amish.....

Black Power A Done Deal

Scurrilous Commentary by Fred Reed

"It is curious that blacks, the least educated thirteen percent of the population, the least productive, most criminal, and most dependent on governmental charity, should dominate national politics. Yet they do. Virtually everything revolves around what blacks want, demand, do, or can't do. Their power seems without limit."

"Courses of instruction in the schools, academic rigor, codes of dress, rules regarding unceasing obscenity, all must be set to suit them, as must be examinations for promotion in fire departments, the military, and police forces. Blacks must be admitted to universities for which they are not remotely qualified, where departments of Black Studies must be established to please them. Corporate work forces, federal departments, and elite high-schools must be judged not on whether they perform their functions but on whether they have the right number of blacks."

"Do laws requiring identification to vote threaten to end multiple voting? The laws must go. Do blacks not like Confederate flags? Adieu, flags. Does Huckleberry Finn go down the Mississippi with the Nigger Jim, or Conrad write The Nigger of the Narcissus? These must be banned or expurgated to please blacks who haven’t read them or, usually, heard of them. Do we want to prevent people coming from regions infested with Ebola from entering the United States? We cannot. It would offend blacks."

"We must never, ever say or do anything that might upset them, as virtually everything does. It is positively astonishing. One expects the rich and smart to have disproportionate power. But America is dominated from the slums."

The kid can change all he wants, he’s still a murderer.

You mean after spending 10 or 20 years in prison, longer than their life before prison, they might not be safe to have around our families?

Trump doesn’t like Scalia, so he’d probably wouldn’t appoint justices that would vote like him...

Dissenting Justice Antonin Scalia said the Supreme Court does not have jurisdiction to decide the matter.

I agree with Scalia. The Federal government has no right to butt in on state level issues. The ruling should be limited to Federal cases.

More feely-good rulings without consideration for the Constitution. This ruling gives the Federal government power that is not enumerated and is in fact a direct violation of the 10th Amendment.

Seeing that his sister is retired but was a colleague with identicle record to Sam Alito and Trump said his favorite jurist was Thomas and Scalia. There seems to be little problem who Trump will appoint.
It was Roberts appointed by Bush and recommended by the conservative Cruz that concerns me
