The Iowa caucuses are 10 days from Friday. And Donald Trump, the larger-than-life real estate reality star, is -- still -- the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination. Not only has Trump not disappeared or imploded -- as everyone everywhere predicted he would -- he appears to be getting stronger in both early-state and national polling as actual votes draw closer. At this point, Trump's path to putting the nomination away quickly is far easier than the one Hillary Clinton must travel to capture the Democratic nomination. That doesn't mean Trump is a sure thing just yet, but he has, without question, the best chance of any Republican running to claim the party's top prize.
Below, my latest rankings of the six men who have a realistic-to-semi-realistic chance of winning the GOP nomination. If your preferred candidate's name isn't on the list, it's because they, well, aren't going to win.

No, Trump put Cruz in a position where Cruz ended up changing his position much for the better.
I, not long after that, also switched my backing to Cruz ahead of Trump. Previously I had been pining for a Trump/Cruz ticket. Now that that ticket seems out and as Trump is looking more likely, I am hoping for Mary Fallin to be his running mate.
Amnesty is amnesty and Trump’s touchback position is no different than what the GOPe had been backing a few years ago in order to try to slip amnesty by their base.
There is no reason for it. At all—let those would-be Democrat voters stay home where they belong.
You win the the Perfect Answer of the Thread (PAT) award.
In fact, it explains so much on so many levels, that it's highly favored to win the Perfect Answer of the Year (PAY) award.
The only difference between the two is a couple of faux Greek columns and the “God echo” effect in his speeches filled with incoherent, babbling bumper sticker slogans.
I see.
Oh it’s so fun watching ‘splodey heads a ‘splodin!!!
“it explains so much on so many levels, that it’s highly favored to win the Perfect Answer of the Year (PAY) award.”
It’s going to be a long year. Maybe longer than 1968.
Agreed.
People need to turn their hearts to God.

Tell me how that happens and I’ll listen.
I preach the Gospel every Sunday and teach a Bible class three times a week. Add that to the visits to the hospitals and nursing homes, having to prepare all of the above, and the meetings with others in the area, and I’m absolutely sure that I can’t do any more than that without running myself so ragged that I’d do more harm than good.
Until then, I gotta go with the guy who’s calling to protect the Christians in the Middle East, keep murderous Muslims out of the country, and seems to have the ability and the will to do so.

Nope, I’m loving him stomping all over every single sacred cow there is; I love him bypassing the media with his tweets; I love him mocking the hell out of a reporter who thought that political correctness would let him get away with anything.
Being polite has gotten us nowhere. I WANT an ass as President, and I want him to be an AMERICAN ass. I’m going to keep on Trumping; after you take into account all the stuff that Cruz has pulled lately (and more significantly, the stuff that he very notably HASN’T pulled), none of the other candidates are worth a bucket of warm spit. And I say this as a person who still likes Cruz.
To put it simply, this post is dangerously closer to reading ‘concern troll is concerned.’
I am happy to be gracious to those who disagree.
I will not be gracious to those who throw shit, and I will happily fling it right back in their faces.
Quick addendum: I’m not saying that you’re a troll; I’m saying that the post you made can come off as one.
Maybe I’ve been infected with New York Values from my time there, or maybe it’s generational, or maybe I’m just sick of politeness being used as an excuse not to fight. But I love, LOVE how Trump is handling the campaign so far.
The entire mainstream media is now rooting for Trump, shilling that the race is over, and the once poised and alert GOP grass roots is pretending not to notice who it is pushing Trump on them, while more serious Conservative candidates are either ignored or derided by that same media the GOP grass roots has known is their sworn enemy. Come on people wake up.
You’ve got a heavy work load, but you’re doing God’s work. That is very encouraging to hear.
There are no easy answers for turning a nation back to God. I would say restoring laws based on his word would be a great start though.
Thanks for that quick addendum, it does change the tenor of my reaction. I realized my post might sound “troll-like”, which is why I was open about not having any credibility as a poster here.
Like you, I want to see a fighter; my main issue with the Bush family is that they seem more concerned about being seen as gracious than about taking care of the country. Trump’s finest moment with me was when he had Jorge Ramos escorted out of that press conference, and Jeb sealed his fate with me when he said the guy deserved more respect.
But one of my issues with the Democrat party is that it pursues victory at all costs, including costs to the country. I’m not willing to get behind that just because a candidate jumps behind an R label or suddenly “sees the light” as a conservative. But I’ve already said that, no need to repeat.
Thanks for responding and for clarifying.

hahah⦠and great news about Iowa today!
Yes, I was re-reading my post after I posted it and realized that I probably came off far too harsh than I intended to. (I really try hard to match the harshness of my replies to the harshness of the one I’m replying to, but sometimes I overcompensate.) So thanks for reading the addendum before firing off a response.
You do have a point with what you’re saying; there’s a difference between fighting to win and fighting to win so hard that you lose in the end.
I believe that where we differ is that my optimal point of assery, if you will let me use the term, is different than yous. I’m a millennial and steeped in Internet culture. Out in the wilds of social media, you HAVE to be loud and obnoxious in order to get attention. That or lots of cute cat pictures. And Trump’s form of communication really speaks to that, especially with Twitter. It provokes, it gets the message across, and then it stops, usually leaving us eager to hunt for more with the sum total of human knowledge just a smartphone app away. It also gives us a sense of communication. Most of my friends and associates don’t watch much TV or news shows, but we chat and we text and we tweet. And Trump, who knows how to use social media, really comes across as of us, as opposed to the other politicians who tend to be really condescending on the social media.
I admit I don’t know which generation you are or what cultures or subcultures that you associate with, but I suspect that they’re different than mine.
As for why I’m voting for Trump despite his relatively recent conversion, it’s mostly because he’s shown that he can bypass the media and stomp the glitter out of PC and the establishment. The other candidates have not shown that they are able to do so. And if we can’t break the back of the establishment, any good that can be done in the next 4-8 years can easily be undone even faster.
To me it’s like if you’re falling out of a plane, and your choices are a pack that may or may not have a parachute in it, and a pack that definitely doesn’t have a parachute in it. To my mind, (using the opinions I’ve formed through my observations, because this is people and none of us are mind readers or seers,) there’s really only one rational choice.
There are no easy answers for turning a nation back to God. I would say restoring laws based on his word would be a great start though.

Considering the point that we’re at, we may have to rewind even more than that.
One big problem that I’m seeing from my POV is that not only are people not in the churches, Jesus isn’t in the churches either.
Oh sure, the NAME of Jesus is all over the place, but the Jesus of Scripture and the Jesus of popular American religion are very different things. We already know about liberal Jesus and so I won’t go too far into that, but in evangelical circles, the emphasis is very, very rarely on Jesus. The emphasis is on ME.
Example: The question, “How am I going to give my heart to God?” It raises the implication that your heart is yours to give, when it’s not. It’s lost to sin and death until Jesus takes it for his own.
“What am I doing? How am I feeling? What do I have to do?” It’s just me, me, me, me me me. A huge swath of American cultural Christianity can be summed up in this direct quote from an aggrieved congregant to her pastor. “MY Jesus wouldn’t call people names!”
If this nation is going to be revived at all, it needs to start in the churches, and it needs to start by turning the picture to Christ instead of ourselves.
I’m with you 100%. Churches up here don’t like me much, I tell people straight up how disgusted I am with the current state of things.
Jesus was right, the way is narrow.
You are wrong country can be fixed by man with God in his heart!!!
No, that’s not correct, it’s going to take many men and women with God in their hearts.
