Martial law has been decalred in New York City. This comes in response to this year's biggest snow storm.
The New York Police Department is threatening to arrest anyone on the road. They are calling it a "travel ban."
"After 2:30 p.m and you're on the road, we will arrest you @NYPDChiefofDept says," NYPD says.
"Stay off the road, @NYPDChiefofDept says. We don't want to have to arrest you."

I look at these webcams quite often...This is really strange to see...*L*
Saw on Drudge that they won't be giving tickets for building illegal snowmen.
WTH?
“Everyone walking in the street and an SUV comes by. But I figured it could have been something important.”
Did you mean “something” or “somebody” important;-) lol? The NYC government big wigs probably drive around in 80K Suburban SUVs. Or isn’t that the way it works in the Big Apple, like DC? One standard is applied for the average residents and taxpayers, and another for connected elites. I’m just not of the urban mentality where it is expected and acceptable for the government to control the dependent masses.
There are all kinds of government vehicles moving...Police, Fire, Medical, snow removal...But they are scattered...

Doesn’t answer the question.
An English-speaking East Germany. Swell.
New York: we free thugs & rapists and pat ourselves on the back for it.
We also arrest the snowbound. And pat ourselves on the back for it.
What??? Hell, I don’t know....I’m sitting at home in the southern mountains watching on webcams...
Call NYPD and ask them.....
The fact it took 25 comments before pointing that out is ... disappointing.
This is probably a very stupid question. Why don’t they have chain laws there? Out here we close roads to any traffic without chains or snow tires, when it gets really bad, chains required. 18 wheelers out here drive with chains hanging from the side and pull over and chain up when required.
And we don’t get anywhere near the kind of snow I’m seeing in those pictures. Plows are running when the snow starts falling here.
Police state SOBs.
It's Manhattan. The entire island is paved and the streets are in a grid pattern. If an ambulance driver doesn't have the sense to go around the block - any block - as an alternate route to an emergency site then they are unfit to drive.
The last travel ban (last year?) they arrest3ed no one. It is definitely way over the top to threaten arrest. That said, folks need to be told that they NEED to stay off the streets for the benefit of everyone. They should make an announcement something like, “if you insist on traveling the next 24 hours your are screwing your neighbors so knock it off.”
Good grief. Politicians on the east coast act like no one there has ever seen snow before. And, of course, 24 inches sounds so much worse than 2 feet. Such drama. It’s winter and in the winter sometimes it snows, in spite of all the hubbub about global warming.
People in places like Colorado, North Dakota and Wyoming have to be laughing their dupas off.
Unless you’re urinating. Then it’s ok.
Have a good evening.
Well, I can say this from looking at the webcam at Times Square before...When the weather is great, I don’t see how there is not a “fender bender” every 5 minutes with all the taxis and buses and private cars filling those roads all hours of day and night...It would be really bad when there’s ice/snow, I guess....
You too...
Not only New York City....Long Island, too.
