Two books relate how grace and the power of the Holy Spirit can overcome same-sex attraction
Caleb Kaltenbach's new book, Messy Grace (WaterBrook Press, 2015), has a tantalizing subtitle: How a Pastor With Gay Parents Learned to Love Others Without Sacrificing Conviction. Kaltenbach states that "profound change is just as possible for a homosexual sin as it is for any other"-but it has to come through grace. Kaltenbach argues that Christians should emphasize a change of heart, and let that change then influence minds (and use of sex organs). It seems to me that churches should welcome but not affirm gays, so I found Kaltenbach's thinking useful.
I also found Denny Burk and Heath Lambert's argument in Transforming Homosexuality: What the Bible Says about Sexual Orientation and Change (P&R Publishing, 2015) helpful in debunking the myth that change is not possible for those struggling with same-sex attraction. The authors use Scripture to show how the same power that resurrected Jesus from the dead can lead to moral change. Just like Kaltenbach, Burk and Lambert believe, "This is just as true for same-sex attraction as it is for any other sin."

I fear that if the moral degradation of this nation continues, the truth spoken in these books will be banned.
Which proves that it is a choice, not genetics.
How terrible that if a misguided one makes a terrible decision about gender and then is never allowed to return to normal once they realize their delusion?
Yes, if ones’ sexuality cannot change, then why are homos always trying to recruit?
Are you saying that liberals contradict themselves? Say it isn’t so!

I don’t recognize all these names, but some of them are the kinds that the American people really like.
How can you know that?
There are plenty of people that thought Saul of Tarsus would be a Christian-killer until the day he died - how did that turn out?
Are you saying that God cannot change their hearts? That there are limits to Grace, and thus to God?
What Bible have you been reading?
My guess: given the Olbergfell ruling, the US government will soon rule that it is illegal to tell a ‘gay’ person that they can repent. It is just the excuse the Federals need to prosecute Christians and Jews.
The current mayor of NYC married a militan lesbian and had kids with her...
Anybody can change.
If you have high cholesterol are you going to continue eating fried foods and salt?
The human heart is depraved beyond comprehension. The real reason is sin, which nobody wants to address due to their “pride”.
Good luck with that before a Mighty & Holy God.
This article proves nothing. How gullible are you?
Some people are born with an attraction to the same sex -- most are not.
Why are you compelled to judge the ones different from you? There seems to be plenty in your soul that needs work -- stop worrying everyone else's.
"I just can't wait until I'm big enough to bone other dudes in the pooper!" said no baby ever
The thing that is often missed when people talk about anyone changing out of a sinful lifestyle is that we must acknowledge that we are dead in Christ. Lifestyle has to do with self identity. When we become Christians we are dead to our old sin nature and risen with Christ into a divine nature. We are alive with Christ. When sin rears it’s ugly head we must acknowledge that it is no longer us but our dead sin nature that is trying to resurrect itself. This is not who we really are anymore. Forever and ever we are and will be aligned with Christ. This is who we really are. Not the filthy, sinful, carnal nature that is trying to make us think it is us. As we acknowledge constantly that we are dead with Christ and risen with Him as new creatures the power of The Holy Spirit will be released in our lives to live through us. It is through this truth that we are set free. It is through understanding who we really are in Christ and identifying with Him rather than the dead sin nature.
Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
What exactly are you trying to say?
when we are saved we get a new nature, but the old one isn’t gone.
we fight against it every day. it is the old adam and it’s there every morning. has to be fought against every day. if not true we wouldn’t need the armor of God anymore.
Those who think they are born with an attraction to those of the same sex are likely plagued with unclean spirits of homosexuality. When someone is the abode of an unclean spirit it hides behind the self. It makes the one it lives itself out in think that it is that person. Once the person fulfills it’s bidding and begins to have perverted sex than that person’s physiology becomes turned over in many ways to homosexuality. Soon the person is “tuned” physically, emotionally and spiritually to fulfill sinful dictates. He or she than identifies themselves as a homosexual. In the beginning they were a person who was plagued with a demon that pretended itself to be that person. That person needed deliverance. Also when someone is molested by a homosexual not only is their physiology changed but also unclean spirits of homosexuality have been passed along to them. They need spiritual deliverance and to realize that they weren’t born with homosexuality but were duped into it. They need to accept forgiveness and new life through Jesus Christ our LORD and learn to live by The Spirit and not the flesh, recognizing it to be dead and buried with Christ.
Of course we need the armor everyday. An important weapon we fight against the old nature with is the truth, The Word of God. The truth is that the old nature is dead and we are alive in Christ. We need to learn to identify with Christ and let His Spirit live through us. We are not impotent victims without recourse to our old nature but we must learn to pick up our cross and follow Jesus the living and risen LORD. We do not live out the flesh because it is dead to us. The Bible tells us this. Spiritual battles are won by knowing and standing on truth. When Jesus was tempted He fought back with the truth of God’s Word, the sword of The Spirit. We must learn to stand on truth and wield the sword of The Spirit. The battle begins with knowing and standing on truth. We have to be careful not to use the flesh as a crutch and excuse to see ourselves as helplessly under the power of sin.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Philemon 1:6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
