How about the whole quote:

Trump: And you know what, there’s a point at which, let’s get to be a little bit establishment, because we gotta get things done, folks, okay? Believe me, don’t worry, we’re gonna get such great deals, but at a certain point, you can’t be so strident, you can’t not get along, we gotta get along with people. You know in the old days, Ronald Reagan, and I remember it so vividly, I was a young guy, I helped Ronald Reagan, I really liked him... so what happens, Ronald Reagan would get along with (Democrat) Tip O’Neill, and they’d sit down, and they’d make great deals for everybody. That’s what the country’s about, isn’t it? I mean, we can all be tough but at some point we gotta get our country back on track.

Thanks

The statement is wrong. Reagan never made any deals with O Neil.

CLAIM: FALSE

Now before all the Trump supporters bash, you can go back in time to see that I have made this comment before not related to the 2016 election.

TIP O hated Reagan and Reagan, even for all his good manners, wrote in his diaries dislike of Tip (this opinion evolved). What Reagan did was BACK DOOR Tip and reach in to his caucus and pull out Yellow DOGS Democrats to his side. Thus the Reagan coalition. The narrative that Tip and Reagan worked together is a myth of Washington insiders to convince the people of the value of bi-partisanship. Yes, Tip did work with Reagan sometimes, but only to avoided utter embarrassment and to prevent the exodus of yellow dogs to the GOP (which ultimately happened in 1994 when Newt finished the work of Reagan).

As an interesting note, Reagan also wrote it was sometimes easier to get votes from Democrats than republicans. One of those Republicans we know was BOB DOLE, life long Beltway guy and recent Trump supporter.

Tip O’Neil was a conservative compared to dirty harry who is a socialist.

World of difference in the old Dixiecrat’s and today’s dems flaming socialist and communist. Or down right dictators like DUMBO.

Compromise does not mean giving in to the other side totally. Like Ryan does and No GONADS cry baby before him did.

It’s true about Reagan and Tip.

It was the same way in Texas with Bush and Bob Bullard.

But Pelosi and Reid ain’t Tip or Bob. And that’s the difference.

What kind of deals? Now if it’s a sort of deal that diverts funds from entitlements to infrasturcture then I am for it.

If it’s a deal to allow trans bathrooms in public schools in exchange for less union control, I’m against it.

I think he’ll make good fiscal deals. Cultural impact deals I’m not so sure about.

that is quit a different context.

i might point out that i wish Reagan had fought harder for cuts, but i guess that was not possible with a majority dem congress.

and i dont know why trump made that “empty suit” comment about Reagan.

I think he supported him and i think he just talked so much over the past 30 years and if you talk enough, some foolish things are gonna come out.

Lord knows that applies to me :)
