The head of the Chicago Public Schools says the district will lay off some of its central office staff on Friday.

At Pershing Road? It doesn’t say, but I think that is the central office. It is notorious for being a money pit, or “hive of scum and villainy”, if you will. A lot of six-figure salary education bureaucrats there. So this is a good start.
Thing is, this should have been done years ago. People have been saying this for years.
Ah ok, apparently they moved out of there quite a few years ago to the former ComEd building. Still, the bloated staff at headquarters has been ripe for cutting for a long time.

I think the main office is now at clark and Adams in the old Com Ed building. Still a money pit and "hive of scum and villany" though.
They are just eliminating the (non-unionized) low-hanging fruit; here in NJ they will cut anyone else before going after the real costs: unionized teachers with tenure.

CPS closed a bunch of schools last year and hired a firm to move school assets into storage. The original $9,000,000.00 contract ballooned to $24,000,000.00 and they still managed to “lose” 3,000 laptop computers, 5,000 or so desks and tables, and several thousand chairs.
CPS is a criminal organization. The entire leadership should be charged with child abuse.
