The last time I was back in the NY metro area for the Thanksgiving holiday there was a noticeable increase in the homeless population. Now the commie mayor and city council want to take a hatchet to the successful broken windows policing. I wonder if Hollyweird has some dusty NYC going to hell scripts filed away because they might become relevant again.

For those who were disappointed that the hookers and drug dealers were chased out of Times Square in the late 1990s by Giuliani’s zero tolerance policy for crimes like this, they should be back very soon.

Didn’t Rudy prove that enforcing the minor crimes reduced the overall crime rate?

Reversing Giuliani's Broken Windows approach to policing will predictably produce the reverse results. Death Wish Dinkins era, here we come.

But cigarette smoking, selling loosies, and drinking a Big Gulp must still be prevented at any and all costs!

When you ain't getting the job done, the easiest way to get it done is by lowering your standards. Congratulations NYC, on taking the easy way out.

Schmucks.

I lived in downtown Manhattan in the 1990s. I lived there before Giuliani was elected and then during after his zero tolerance policing policies took effect. I cannot overstate how beneficial they were to city residents. They took areas that were riddled with drugs, prostitution, aggressive panhandling and other crime and turned them into decent places where you could walk around without worrying about being mugged, offered drugs, solicited by a prostitute or having some aggressive bum in your face asking for money. New York City became a decent place to live. Now the city council is going to throw it all away.

There are two aspects to this. First it empowers the petty criminals to commit crimes.

Second it demoralizes the cops, who are prevented from using techniques they know will work. So they back off from policing further than intended or desired.

What those create is something called a self-reinforcing feedback loop. Or, if you prefer, a death spiral.

Fascinating. Reading the article reveals that the plan is to push these crimes out of criminal court into civil court.

And that no ID will be required when issuing summonses. It is said that criminal court is clogged with these "low level" misdemeanors and that no shows get warrants that just increase the clog.

My question is why do they think this change will increase compliance for showing up if they simply change it to a different court.

So the formula for success used by Guillani is no good now? NYC goes right back into the gutter from whence it came. Liberalism and common sense are never compatible.

Isn’t liberal logic the most wonderful thing, it feels so good to be kind and considerate to criminals because like every other citizen they are just trying to do the best they can.

Read: Hizzoner Mayor de Blasio has decided there's crimes and activities that are OK with him. So, you NYPD boys no longer have to enforce some laws. If you should slip up, Mayor de Blasio will punish you.

NYC has come full circle to the halcyon years of “General” David Dinkins.

Public urination will become decriminalized in NYC.
If caught, you do not have to provide identification.

So, if you flash someone and get caught, just tell the cop that you were about to pee.

New York City values.
