For months, the press and the Republican establishment alike have been expecting the Trump bubble to implode. Now that it's clear Trump isn't going anywhere, we're seeing stories about a long slog of a campaign or even a brokered convention. But there's a very real possibility that, far from those kinds of days of reckoning, Donald Trump could actually "run the table." Ironically, Trump not only could win -- he could win more decisively than any non-incumbent Republican contestant for the nomination since the dawn of the modern primary system.
Let's see how that might happen.
New Hampshire
First, let's look not at Iowa, but at New Hampshire. Trump has been leading in New Hampshire by double-digits since August. If those polls are to believed, Trump is poised not only to win, but to win decisively.
Conventional wisdom is that whichever establishment-friendly candidate places second -- at this point John Kasich is lined up behind Trump, but Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, and even Jeb Bush are all said to have a shot -- is going to be Trump's most-viable challenger for the nomination. But if Donald Trump dominates with 30 to 40 percent of the vote in New Hampshire, and they come in 15 to 20 points behind, how is that possible?
More logically, whoever wins Iowa is going to be Trump's biggest challenger, and if that candidate does poorly in New Hampshire then whoever comes in second there (assuming it's somebody else) will be a long-shot third for the nomination.
So let's look at Iowa.

DUnold Tramp bringing in all those LIEberals the the DUmocrats purged when their move toward communist takeover of the party was completed.
The only expectations I've seen until this past week were that Cruz had IA sewed up and it was only a question of how badly he'd beat Trump there. Articles about his wonderful machine, great ground game, and so on only vanished when it started to look like Trump might pull off a surprise.
So, yes, managing expectations is important and for all the things people have praised about the Cruz campaign (including his special psychology squad), he's done a horrible job of managing expectations.
“We will see come Iowa. My opinion Trump will disappoint and crater from there.”
The extent of your self delusion is staggering.
Entertaining, though. haha (same for libbylu and demshategod. Maybe you guys can get a group rate at a self help clinic.)
That is a blatant personal attack which violates the posting rule AND Jim's request of yesterday. Times that try men's souls vs living in interesting times
And it violates FReeper protocol in not pinging those we call ny name in our comment. Please stop.
Are you taking this personally? I don’t have a first amendment right to disagree with you?
I apologize that you took offense. It does not change the fact that some hardcore trumpees blindly believe all donnie, ignore his lies and flip flops, praise donnie trashing everyone who does not kiss his butt.
And try to reinforce all the political lies he is using against Cruz, including ethanol, Ted’s COLLATERAL mortgage loan, his BC, and his past hits on Cruz’s religion.
You are misreading - YOU were the TARGET of the attack and the failure to be pinged to the attack. I copied you as a courtesy which the attacker failed to do,
Sorry dono. Thank you. I am used to their insults.
Re post#24. I share your thoughts LOL
Yes, I figured it out to late and I do appreciate it. I won’t forget who you are. A gentleman in the midst of so many striving to degrade as their hero does.
God Bless you and yours.
Yes, it does hurt like hell -losers has been the establishment choice for years and WE have become very accustomed to voting for them...not just losers, but bums. Sure is nice to at last choose some WON we want to see.
Go Trump!
Make it so, carry it across
AMERICA would love the opportunity to celebrate once again. Winning has been long sense forgotten in our DNA
Cry me a river. I can’t count the number of cruz supporters who have personal attacks in their signatures.
Ted Cruz 2016!
If you're gonna call 'em out, then ping'em!
My co-workers and I were talking about the election at lunch today (we are in NYC). We cannot think of a scenario in which Trump can be stopped. Even if he loses Iowa, his path seems pretty clear from that point forward. The relentless media bashing of him has had zero effect. We’ve never seen anything like it.
We back someone who has actually WON an election... before... on conservative principles... and fought for decades FOR those principles...
“If you’re gonna call ‘em out, then ping’em!”
Ping this. They all live on the trump threads.
What a bunch of children.
It’s another “Hope and Change” campaign by a big-government, authoritarian leader. Where have I seen that before? Trump supporters should see how happy Obama supporters are these days and recognize where they will be in a few years if he wins. Hopefully they learn something.
