Love it!!
My parents always told me to quit pussy footing around. :-)
Pussyfooting around is an age old term.
I like Palin’s use of colloquial American English.
But she didn’t invent that term, if that is what you are saying.
“But she didnât invent that term, if that is what you are saying.”
No, of course not. It’s interesting the academic and editorial standard dictionary for American English used her political quotation as an example for the definition in less than 24 hours after she spoke it.
Oh.
I didn’t even see that.
That is interesting.
If you have ever seen a cat that has stepped in a puddle of water you would understand what the term means.
Love it.
The word “pussyfoot” was originally coined by Teddy Roosevelt.
My first exposure to the term was at football practice many long years ago. BTW - thanx for all the good tunes all time!
“The word âpussyfootâ was originally coined by Teddy Roosevelt.”
Pussyfoot was used by Scribner’s Magazine in 1893, and it was a slang word in popular use long before then. My grandfather and grandmother learned the use of the word from family and acquaintances in two different states who were using the word long before they were around in the 1880s. The root word, pussy to mean a cat, was in use in Old Norwegian and Low German centuries ago.
Now that’s getting down to the nitty-gritty.
nitty-gritty - origin unknown, (unless Teddy Roosevelt said it)
I stand corrected. Apparently it was Roosevelt who gave the word a big boost in popularity. Thank you for the correction.
