Mr. Trump's support [36 percent] was down a bit from 41 percent in a Monmouth poll released last month, while Mr. Cruz picked up 3 points of support since last month.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has a 19-point edge over his closest 2016 GOP rival, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, in a national poll on the Republican field released Wednesday.

Mr. Trump was at 36 percent in the poll from Monmouth University, followed by Mr. Cruz at 17 percent, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida at 11 percent, and retired doctor Ben Carson at 8 percent. The survey was conducted from Jan. 15-18, after last week’s GOP debate in South Carolina....

Well I just got confirmation that Trump is needed. He just bashed the Oscar nonsense. The only one. He just made news on it and he was right. PC crap has to stop. Cruz was asked and said, “Oh the African Americans have a point. It is the second year they haven’t received a nominee”.....WTF Cruz!!!!!

By putting so much late into Iowa I think DT is making a big mistake. It is not the polls that will win Iowa, it is the organization getting out their voters. And in that Cruz has Trump far outstripped. He might bring out a brig crowd and trot Sarah, but he Ted has invested in a large local organization. I believe that Ted will let a little bit of the air out of Trump caucus night. Then, there’s no telling what kind of trash that DT will talk! Go TED!

Sorry Joe. I don’t have the time to explain to you why SMART business men must play both sides of the corrupt Political establishment.

You mean corrupt businessmen like Trump regularly bribe Democratic Party officials in New York and get into bed with the mafia so they can skirt laid down procedures and rules for corrupt self interest?
I know how that works. I live in New York.
Say, tell me, how many top Democratic Party officials from New York( including Sheldon Silver) have been jailed recently for similar corrupt deals?

If you are from NY you should appreciate the job well done Trump did on the ice skating area. Under budget and on time when it was stalled and over budget for years.

Trump knows how to get it done.

Cruz has slipped 6 points in this biased poll. Not good news for Cruz. Trump is looking very good in Iowa.

Every single candidate backed by Bob Vander Plaats in the last 8 years has won Iowa.

Did he endorse the Huckster and Santorum?

Trump is dead to me after showing his true colors and backing ethanol subsidies.

I understand and for the most part, agree. The difference that I see, the ONLY redeeming quality since he is NOT a conservative, is that Trump is not in the GOPe inner circle.

Trump is going to ask Scott Walker to be his VP and Walker will accept.

"Running some basic assumptions from the polling data shows that Trump will have enough delegate votes at the GOP convention to not go to a second ballot."

That's the way to read it with a >10% national lead. And this may be the one time RCP's 'averaging' at +16% is worth a damn, if forecasting the long trend.

Particularly when you look at who is going to get out after Super Tuesday (March 1, which happens to be about the same time it's no longer worth chasing downstream GOP primary ballot space), Sir Lard Huckabee & Santorum could give Cruz a small but noticeable +/-2 bump BUT Fiorina, Paul, Fatty Arbuckle, and Kasich abandoned bandwagoners would trend heavily Trump and consolidate his overall to the magic +50% while maintaining +/-20 on whoever takes 2nd at that point.

The x-factor is if Rubio or Bush suddenly abandons their campaign and pointedly throws support to the other one. Rubio is not just Bush's pet project but even moreso Romney's. And these GOPe/Globali$ts won't go quietly. If Bush's money people and Romney's money people told Bush to get out with a sharp lateral pass to Rubio, that fight for 2nd place behind Trump would be the more intriguing thing about the second half of the primary game.

The truth hurts. Trump.is a lifelong liberal with lifelong.liberal positions on everything from abortion to Obamacare to homosexual marriage to support for ethanol subsidies. Forget about his recently acquired, politically motivated “pro life” position. It's a total sham. In reality Trump is exactly like Hilary Clnton. Trump even made contributions to Hilary, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

36% for Trump (unchanged) (which is a long way from 51%)
36% for Cruz/Carson/Rubio,.Trump has spent the last couple of weeks pissing off their supporters
28% scattered among others, many of whom will drop out in the next 5 weeks, who are highly unlikely to choose Trump as their #2 choice.

This is still very wide open.

I agree that we need to shut down this Trump vs Cruz in this forum.

I'm a Trump supporter but I will happily support Cruz in the general if he beats Trump fair and square.

All the anti-Trump posting going on here only reinforces my decision to support Trump and I think it reflects poorly on Cruz. Though as I stated, I will support Cruz should he get the nomination in spite of the incivility many of his supporters exhibit here.
