Mr. Trump's support [36 percent] was down a bit from 41 percent in a Monmouth poll released last month, while Mr. Cruz picked up 3 points of support since last month.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has a 19-point edge over his closest 2016 GOP rival, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, in a national poll on the Republican field released Wednesday.

Mr. Trump was at 36 percent in the poll from Monmouth University, followed by Mr. Cruz at 17 percent, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida at 11 percent, and retired doctor Ben Carson at 8 percent. The survey was conducted from Jan. 15-18, after last week’s GOP debate in South Carolina....

The (clearly marked) Iowa poll is Jan 13. The thread story (national poll) is today.

Yes, I understand that. Do you understand I was referring to the Iowa poll link that you posted, not the OP for the national poll?

Iowa is meaningless. Always has been. Just ask President Huckabee.

All this Trump/Cruz back & forth is really getting boring. I really don't think either side is being swayed to change their position. And I believe most will support either man if nominated.

Amen!

Yes. I do.

I want the readers of the thread to know you were speaking of the Iowa poll; your comment confused it with the national poll out today that shows Trump has dropped 5 points and Cruz has gained 3.

It’s over.

The others need to get out and unite behind the leader.

He’s leading everyplace

He’s at 48% in Florida and the closest is at only 16. The Florida boys are less than that.

It’s over, CW.

Time to unite.

Only thing that matters right now is Iowa. Everything else is noise.

Amen to that, which is the reason Trump started courting Sarah so long ago. He needs her to win Iowa. After that, he absolutely dominates, and Cruz won't last long. But if Cruz carries the Cornholes, he will have renewed momentum (and CASH) for sure

I wouldn't vote for Trump the snake if they held a gun to my head. There is no difference between Obama and Trump.

Sarah Palin has ZERO influence in Iowa and Ted Cruz has tied up all the endorsements that count, Bob Vander Plaats, Steve King, Steve Deace. Those are the endorsements that count in Iowa. Every single candidate backed by Bob Vander Plaats in the last 8 years has won Iowa.

So if Cruz doesn't get the nomination you are not voting? GOOD!

No difference between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. They’ve been best buddies for years.

From the article:

“When Republicans and Republican-leaning voters are asked who they would support for the GOP
nomination for president”
__________________________________________________________
Who are the “Republican-leaning” voters? Open primaries and “Republican-leaning” voters continue to select our nominee. As long as we have “open” primaries where anyone can vote regardless of their party affiliation, we will continue to get nominees who do not represent the Republican base. This same reality is true of poll numbers. The only poll that counts is the one on election day.

Unfortunately this year, the Democrat base knows their nominee will be a socialist, and they feel free to claim the roll of “Republican leaning”voters in polls. Also unfortunately this same group will help select the Republican nominee, that they feel will be the easiest to defeat in the general election.

Why do I feel that I'm seeing the same adulation for one of our candidates that is not unlike that shown by the Democrat base for Obama in 2008.

The logical choice for our nominee should be from the group of individuals, who in the past, have stood up for conservative values, even against the GOPe.

We should not be choosing our nominee based upon fame, wealth, or popularity with the masses. Too many times the “masses” are really Dems in disguise.

re>They’ve been best buddies for years.

That is a flat out lie. Hillary was a NY senator. Only a STUPID business man would want to make her an enemy.
