- The head of one of the nation's largest abortion advocacy groups has said that Democrats should stop talking about the traditional, two-parent family.
Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, particularly faulted insurgent Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders for placing his socialistic economic policies ahead of liberal social issues, like abortion and redefining the family.
Sanders' traditional emphasis on economics "showed a lot in that first debate when he kept saying, 'You know we need parental leave, so mommies can stay home with their babies,'" Hogue said.
Last October, Sanders used child-rearing to promote federal legislation requiring employers to give 12 weeks of paid family leave. "Every other major country on earth - every one, including some small countries - say that when a mother has a baby, she should stay home with that baby," he said. "We are the only major country" that does not.
Hogue said the idea outraged her.
"And I was like, 'Stop saying that. It's 2015,'" she said. "'My husband is home with our kids right now so I can be here.'"
Her criticism comes despite the fact that a plethora of social science data show that children raised in traditional, intact families do better economically and socially than those raised in any other family structure.
Hogue, a veteran organizer with left-wing groups like MoveOn.org and the Rainforest Action Network, said she supports federal employer mandates, but Sanders' reference to motherhood reflects his "very old mentality."
Despite the emphasis, Hogue said, "you still love him because he's sort of like your grumpy grandfather."
She said in an interview with the website Refinery 29 that she looks forward to redefining the "progressive" movement, so that reproductive and sexual issues displace economic concerns.
"I think that this sort of old model of progressivism, which is very much the white, working-class labor era progressivism, is being [challenged] in a really big way right now," she said. "We have really been trying to explore this link between economic equality, abortion access, and reproductive rights generally. It's been super fascinating."
A need for both parents to work, rather than raise children, means that "reproductive rights are increasingly a family issue."
"You can't talk about economic opportunity and economic equality to me as a woman without actually acknowledging the whole thing is tied up in my family planning," she said.
Her organization, on January 5, Hogue said that she was "thrilled to announce that the NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC has voted to endorse Hillary Clinton for president. Hillary has what it takes to fight Republican attacks on women's reproductive rights, and has the vision and experience to ensure women and families thrive."
The group spent $3.3 million in 2012 to re-elect President Obama.
Planned Parenthood has also endorsed Hillary Clinton, who is seen as the prohibitive Democratic front runner, in its first-ever primary endorsement.

Abortion is now fascinating. Just wow.
This just goes to show how yesterday’s liberals (and even yesterday’s radicals) are now too conservative for the current vanguard. In 2015, O’Malley and Sanders couldn’t get away with saying that both black and white lives matter (because now only black lives matter), while Sanders and other socialists can’t push government-funded maternity leave because the notion that mothers take care of their children is now a dangerous reactionary position, even if it’s blessed with a federal subsidy.
Nobody from NARAL should ever be allowed to speak on the subject of mothers and children. Their entire central purpose in life is an abomination to the topic.

100 years ago America boasted that we had nearly eradicated the barbaric practice of mothers abandoning their babies to work. Pop culture revolved around songs, plays and movies about mothers. Doug MacArthur, FDR, & Churchill were flaming mama's boys and proud of it.
And the Left knew that had to end.
Compulsory schooling, younger and younger. Moms in the workforce. Now MOTHERS IN COMBAT!

Killing your babies is not “family planning”, it’s infanticide.
Notice it’s always the people who are most irresponsible sexually, who make no allowances for the foreseeable consequences of their coital escapades, who are always talking about “family planning”? They don’t plan anything, or they wouldn’t be in that mess and be tempted to get an abortion in the first place!
“Planning” is something you are supposed to do in advance, to avoid problems, not something you do retroactively, trying to undo problems.
They are eating their own.
We’re not forced to do calisthenics yet. That comes a few years from now as part of the restrictions on who gets health insurance. If they have their way, we will go to single payer and anyone who doesn’t follow their plan will be ineligible.
Also, the plan will be so complex that no one can actually follow it. This is by design so they can use their power over us arbitrarily against anyone they don’t like.
They love abortion too much. They hate the fact that they are female by nature, and by nature can bear children. Sorry, b!tches, but the patriarchy didn’t do it to you.
