GLENN FREY EAGLES GUITARIST DEAD AT 67
TMZ ^ | 1/17/2016

Posted on 01/18/2016 2:01:14 PM PST by Borges

Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, has died ... TMZ has learned. Frey had been battling intestinal issues for months and had surgery in November. We're told in the last few days his condition took a turn for the worse. Glenn co-wrote and sang most of the Eagles hits, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight," to name a few. He also co-wrote "Hotel California" and "Desperado" with Don Henley and took home 6 Grammys with the band. After the Eagles' 1980 breakup, Glenn launched a successful solo career, recording numerous hits ... most notably "The Heat Is On" and "You Belong to the City." Glenn also got into acting, snagging a recurring role on "Miami Vice." He reunited with the Eagles in '94 for their monster Hell Freezes Over tour and recorded music till the end, releasing what would be his fifth and final solo LP, "After Hours," in 2012. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer had been fighting intestinal issues for awhile but his condition relapsed before the holidays, forcing the Eagles to pull out of their Kennedy Center Honors appearance in December. At the time, the band said he needed major surgery that would require a lengthy recovery, but it appears he was never able to bounce back. Glenn was 67. RIP.

From his website:

IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT WE ANNOUNCE…

...the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016.

Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.

The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery.

Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.

Dang ... if it weren’t so far away, I’d go stand on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.

Did that, once, on a road trip. Lost the picture. Bummer.

Washington Times too, now.

Hope they’re wrong, for his sake, I guess.

We have a program called Riders of the Silver Screen on local east tennessee pbs that features western movies circa 1940’s

at the end, to fill up the time remaining they feature four old men singinging/playing old western/country songs. all are former nashville sidemen and the youngest was 80 a while back. they are having a great time on such a gig at such an age

I also had heard that most of the music was written by Jackson Browne, even though he shares credit with Frey. Don Felder contended Frey had little to no work in Hotel California but took a third of the credit.

Nonetheless, I thought Frey was a better singer than Henley. He was also the de facto leader of the group.

Wow. This is a shock, One of the premiere bands of my youth. I love the Eagles and their music. I’ve seen them 4 times since the 70’s. RIP Glenn.

Yes. Don Henley.

Couldn’t remember for a second.

Who else is dead?

Joe Waslsh?

Bob Welch? (Not the pitcher, who sadly did pass away).

Good lookinn’ fella. Sad he’s gone. Saw the Eagles in 74’. Warmup act was Billy Joel. 3 or 4 vocalists in that band. Says a lot.

Frankly he seemed like a nasty guy personally, but I’ll admit to liking his music a great deal.
