GLENN FREY EAGLES GUITARIST DEAD AT 67
TMZ ^ | 1/17/2016

Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, has died ... TMZ has learned. Frey had been battling intestinal issues for months and had surgery in November. We're told in the last few days his condition took a turn for the worse. Glenn co-wrote and sang most of the Eagles hits, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight," to name a few. He also co-wrote "Hotel California" and "Desperado" with Don Henley and took home 6 Grammys with the band. After the Eagles' 1980 breakup, Glenn launched a successful solo career, recording numerous hits ... most notably "The Heat Is On" and "You Belong to the City." Glenn also got into acting, snagging a recurring role on "Miami Vice." He reunited with the Eagles in '94 for their monster Hell Freezes Over tour and recorded music till the end, releasing what would be his fifth and final solo LP, "After Hours," in 2012. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer had been fighting intestinal issues for awhile but his condition relapsed before the holidays, forcing the Eagles to pull out of their Kennedy Center Honors appearance in December. At the time, the band said he needed major surgery that would require a lengthy recovery, but it appears he was never able to bounce back. Glenn was 67. RIP.

I loved the final scenes of the one with Ted Nugent and Arielle Dombasle.

There used to be a youtube of it, showing The Nuge pulling a gun on Crocket, then the forensics finding buried bodies, then the last scene on the beach with Arielle, all the while Godly and Creme are singing Cry.

I remember the episode of Miami Vice where they played Ted’s “Little Miss Dangerous” featuring Fiona (who was a very hot 80s rock chick singer).

Unlike most of the R&R bands today, the Eagles had hit after hit for years. I’ve been to many concerts and promoted a few myself, but sitting in the front of the Eagles concert in Austin for the Hell Freezes Over tour was one of my top three of all time.

So the musician death trio is Lemmy Kilmeister, David Bowie, and Glenn Frey. The actor death trio would be Richard Libertini, David Margulies, and Alan Rickman.

That's the only major rock band I can think of with no living original members. Even the Crickets of Buddy Holly have one of the original members still hanging in there (Jerry Alison).

I even checked Elvis Presley's original backing band - if they could be called a band at all. But D.J. Fontana (drummer) is still alive and kicking.

Most amazing is that only one Rolling Stone has died, and that was back in 1969.

I still haven't gotten over Chris Squire, that was the real punch to the gut for me.
