GLENN FREY EAGLES GUITARIST DEAD AT 67
TMZ ^ | 1/17/2016

Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, has died ... TMZ has learned. Frey had been battling intestinal issues for months and had surgery in November. We're told in the last few days his condition took a turn for the worse. Glenn co-wrote and sang most of the Eagles hits, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight," to name a few. He also co-wrote "Hotel California" and "Desperado" with Don Henley and took home 6 Grammys with the band. After the Eagles' 1980 breakup, Glenn launched a successful solo career, recording numerous hits ... most notably "The Heat Is On" and "You Belong to the City." Glenn also got into acting, snagging a recurring role on "Miami Vice." He reunited with the Eagles in '94 for their monster Hell Freezes Over tour and recorded music till the end, releasing what would be his fifth and final solo LP, "After Hours," in 2012. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer had been fighting intestinal issues for awhile but his condition relapsed before the holidays, forcing the Eagles to pull out of their Kennedy Center Honors appearance in December. At the time, the band said he needed major surgery that would require a lengthy recovery, but it appears he was never able to bounce back. Glenn was 67. RIP.

It’s like Lennon with Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Yeah his kid drew a picture. Yeah John.

Well crap. Saw them in the late 70’s in B’ham. Been a fan since mid 70’s.

My ex-wife was a bigger fan than me. When we first got together we went to the Hell Freezes Over concert in B’ham. This was in about ‘95? She just had to go. Tickets were $95 bucks I think. Just damn. But she wanted to go.

Last one I went with her to was at Gwinette(?) arena outside Atlanta. She had to go. So I said O.K. Tickets were $150. She bought 6. For she and I, her sister and a couple of friends. I coulda choked her. But I didn’t. It took a whole lot of will power though.

RIP Glenn! Thanks for the memories. Most of them anyway.

Chicago, at their peak had three (Cetera, Kath and Lamm). Hard to think of bands who had more than two vocalists.

I was 17 when their first album came out ... I had already been playing guitar for 5 years, but this was the first band that inspired me to go out and get their sheet music so I could learn all the song on the album, which was one of the first I ever bought ... I think I wore out the cassette tape. These guys were one of the driving inspiration for me to keep practicing and playing. This really sucks. All the greats from my adolescent years are dying off. It’s hard to watch them all age, since it is a constant reminder that, no matter how famous or how much money one may have, still we all eventually die.

That’s good news. Those original tapes apparently have a shelf life.

Among other episodes, he played a drug smuggler pilot.

He is, and I can’t stand the Reagan-bashing of “End of the Innocence,” but at least with his Walden Woods Project, he chose a private sector solution to his environmental concerns. I can respect that.

Glenn Frey did not write ‘Take it Easy.’ Sorry.
++++
How about “Peaceful Easy Feeling”?

I thought Bruce Hornsby wrote it.

As soon as the Motorhead guy died, I figured more would follow. These rock/celebrity deaths always seem to happen in bunches. They just keep on dying, these music people. If the pace comes up, soon there will be nobody alive making music. In addition to Lemmy not coming down for breakfast anymore, David Bowie will no longer be swinging, or whatever it was he did while he was here on Earth. Hopefully they have a Ziggy Stardust outfit wherever it was he went. That was always my favorite Bowie phase. When I was just a young lad, I wanted to paint my hair red and wear boots with 14 inch platform heels. Now you have this Eagles guy dead. The Eagles never did get much respect. Even when they were in their prime, they had a reputation for lame rock. Like the songs "Desperado", "Heartache Tonight" and "The Greeks Don't Want No Freaks."

Now "Hotel California" was an awesome song. The most listenable and timeless Eagles song ever recorded. It was epic. All those other Eagles songs are annoying to listen to. I was watching the movie "The Big Lebowski" and that "Dude" character did not like the Eagles on bit. I'm with him there. But it's too bad this Glen Frey guy died. He died of things I can't pronounce and so that is never a good way to go. Post Eagles, the big Glen Frey hits were "The Heat Is On" and "You Belong To The City." Forgettable pop from the mid 1980s. What can I say? I'd love to sit here and say I loved the music of Glen Frey but I cannot say that. I can say that about David Bowie however. He had dozens of great timeless songs and my favorite one of that bunch was "Diamond Dogs" with "Space Oddity" a close number two.

All these people who have died in music, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, that guy who drummed in the band I can't remember, then you have that Scott Weiland, who played in Stone Temple Pilots, he was pretty good but he died. Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, Linda Ronstadt, Natalie Cole, Robert Stigwood and in fact pretty much all the BeeGees are now dead, including Andy, who will always look like he's 22 years old. It's just crazy how fast they are all dying.

He had a silly little song called, “Blues for Reagan (He Took Advantage).” I’m an Eagles fan, though, so I just roll my eyes and say, “Whatever there, Glenn.”

“He helped write the soundtrack of our youth.”

Yes.

Which helps explain the decline and debasement of our society, nation and culture over the past 45 years.

Evil comes in many guises and generally it will be attractive and enticing.
